The biggest difference between demon's souls and dark souls is that demon's souls was a new IP. and dark souls is a sequel. you can't compare the two.

Sequels sell faster than new IPs do.

LBP2, Crackdown 2

LBP proves my point though, doesn't it? LBP first year, 1.8 million, LBP 2 first year >2 million.

Although LBP 2 was released during Jan I believe.

Still, LBP was bundled a lot, and has performed consistently.

Crackdown on the other hand was a launch title, it was bound to do better. Similar to resistance.

Take the example of similar games : Gears of war, gears of war 2, uncharted, uncharted 2, etc etc.

Assassin's Creed, Call of duty, all sequels sell faster than before but the LTD sales are similar.

I don't know what numbers you're looking at, but here:

I do agree that most sequels sell faster than new IPs, but with that in mind what does it change? The PS3 version alone is significantly ahead of Demon's Souls for the same timeframe with a holiday season to boost sales further coming up. Then you add in the 360 and PC version which are mostly pure profit. I can't see how being PS3 only would have been better.

Being PS3 only may not be better but there is no doubt demon's souls will be doing similar nos to dark souls at the end of the day.

Including all three versions. Of course, steam sales and all that, I am not sure how many units they will sell.

Still, demon's souls this year : 150000, dark souls PS3 : 200000, dark souls 360 150000.

As you can see, legs. Although they were stronger before the release of dark souls.

The argument that since Dark Souls has sold more in the same timeframe, means that it will sell at the same rate in future is invalid. Look at LBP 2 for instance. Sold well for the first few weeks, better than LBP.

Look at any major new IP as well.

I hope people dont seriously think it is selling less because it wasnt PS3 exclusive and the fans felt that boycotting this game was a better option then actually playing something they like.

The first game was great, the second game just didnt have that same spark. Nuff said.

Forget a little the gamer questions because I know the game going multiplatform is better for the consumer.

But about the From Software, the company itself.

Demon's Souls sold without any marketing: 1.64m

Dark Souls combined sold with some marketing: 1.67m

I thing From Software expected more sales from Dark Souls... way better sales than Demon's Souls... but that's not happened.

What do you think guys???

I would say that when a game is a bit "obscure" it is better to be only for the PS3, because PS3 fans support exclusives better.   If Heavy Rain was multiplatform, it would have sold like crap.   Also look at heavenly Sword Vs. Enslaved. HS sold 1.5M, while enslaved sold 880K.

If Dark Souls was an exclusive, it would have sold lot more.

Um.......excuse me? What world are you living in?

It's not selling less though. It's selling more, combined and PS3 version vs. PS3 version.

Then why was this thread made lol

Demon's souls has been selling at a heavily discounted price  for a long while though. They will not end up selling a similar amount, all versions included. 3m for Dark Souls and just over 2m for Demon's Souls I'd say. But the numbers you brought up say 350k for Dark Souls without the just launched PC version and 150k for Demon's Souls. Dark Souls is still selling at a faster rate, even though it's already passed the sales of Demon's Souls. So no, it's not completely invalid this time around.

It isn't selling faster anymore, at least not compared to demon's souls's second year at the market.

And Dark Souls has been discounted at many places too. That $10 discount for Demon's Souls isn't going to change anything.

Software sales hardly get affected long term by discounts.

Dark Souls isn't going to do 3m. On PC, pretty much it's going to do half as good as the 360 version, if not less. There isn't any PC info here though.

I have been keeping track of dark souls since a long time btw. It has tied with demon's souls or a bit less than demon's souls for months now.

Not really, both the 360 and PS3 version have been about double what Demon's Souls is doing for the past weeks. Then there's the PC version. So still doing around 3-5 times as much as Demon's Souls weekly.

I was talking about the overall sales.

Overall? Didn't you say "for months now", suggesting you meant weekly sales?

I was keeping the track of overall sales for months.

LMAO XD. Let me phrase it better.   PS3 fans support "weird/obscure/new things" exclusives better than every other console fan.
