I don't know what numbers you're looking at, but here:

http://www.vgchartz.com/tools/game_comparison.php?reg=Global&ending=Cumulative&game%5B%5D=LittleBigPlanet+2+%28PS3%29+%5B43908%5D&game%5B%5D=LittleBigPlanet+%28PS3%29+%5B12390%5D&game%5B%5D=&game%5B%5D=

I do agree that most sequels sell faster than new IPs, but with that in mind what does it change? The PS3 version alone is significantly ahead of Demon's Souls for the same timeframe with a holiday season to boost sales further coming up. Then you add in the 360 and PC version which are mostly pure profit. I can't see how being PS3 only would have been better.

Being PS3 only may not be better but there is no doubt demon's souls will be doing similar nos to dark souls at the end of the day.

Including all three versions. Of course, steam sales and all that, I am not sure how many units they will sell.

Still, demon's souls this year : 150000, dark souls PS3 : 200000, dark souls 360 150000.

As you can see, legs. Although they were stronger before the release of dark souls.

The argument that since Dark Souls has sold more in the same timeframe, means that it will sell at the same rate in future is invalid. Look at LBP 2 for instance. Sold well for the first few weeks, better than LBP.

Look at any major new IP as well.

Demon's souls has been selling at a heavily discounted price  for a long while though. They will not end up selling a similar amount, all versions included. 3m for Dark Souls and just over 2m for Demon's Souls I'd say. But the numbers you brought up say 350k for Dark Souls without the just launched PC version and 150k for Demon's Souls. Dark Souls is still selling at a faster rate, even though it's already passed the sales of Demon's Souls. So no, it's not completely invalid this time around.

It isn't selling faster anymore, at least not compared to demon's souls's second year at the market.

And Dark Souls has been discounted at many places too. That $10 discount for Demon's Souls isn't going to change anything.

Software sales hardly get affected long term by discounts.

Dark Souls isn't going to do 3m. On PC, pretty much it's going to do half as good as the 360 version, if not less. There isn't any PC info here though.
