I was thinking, every character featured in the To Michael commercial should have been in this game. I'm not too pleased with the final roster, I may skip.

which characters absent from the game but present in the commercial did you want in the game?

Old Snake and/or Big Boss

Lightning and/or another FF character

Isaac (Dead Space)

Atlas & P-body (Ice Climbers like gameplay)

Ezio and/or Altair

Chimera Hale

ISA (Perhaps Sev)

oh most of those are third party though so superbot may have had difficulty obtaining them and i'm guessing they used radec as the sole killzone rep

hopefully if the game does well enough and there's a sequel they'll have more characters you desire then

Actually...

Your post has exposed you for your true mentality. Selnor raised a very strong point - that was based from a neutral perspective. The character roster is awful and you are disuputing that. Most casuals haven't even heard of more than a 3rd of those characters. You may well have but isn't a game for the hardcore...

You sound awfully bitter against a valid argument and sought to make it a personal vendetta against Selnor, what's your problem!? How about adressing his valid argument.

It's not about what characters YOU want, he's argument was that it was generally a bad list. It is because a lot of those characters are obscure ones that MOST PS3 owners won't have heard of (myself included). What's worse is that it is missing the characters that truly are associated with "Playstation".  I.E Where the fuck is Crash Bandicoot and characters like that.

Trying to have a sensible conversation and you have to make it about some kind of Sony Vs Microsoft fanboy war. I'm not calling you a fanboy as that is against the rules but it's pretty obvious the way you worded your post that you have some kind of weird damage control defensive nonsens going on?

That is no way, shape or form a "neutral perspective" taking all the available information into account.

Also this is a fan service game, I'd personally say it is directed at the hardcore. It's a debatable issue who exactly sony is targeting with the game, but if this is the final roster and you have concluded that the characters are not accessible for casuals, then either Sony's market research, funding or licencing agreements have failed, or it is infact a title aimed at a specific section of the PS3 userbase.

Personally I had heard of every character bar spike (which after reading an early thread on the game I found out is from Ape Escape). I'd say most hardcore playstation fans have heard of the entire roster.

"Where the fuck is crash bandicoot" - Sitting in Activizion's IP bank.

@dallinor
I'm completely in the same boat with a few of the characters like I said earlier, but seriously spike isn't even the cover character of those games, surely if they wanted to make it the characters we know from the games they'd have just had the monkey with the flashing light cap on, everyone would recognize that right off as being Ape Escape, or the Radec character, I mean it's not even his full name and he himself isn't even a big enough character in the game he is featured to have his own wiki page, took some rooting to find out who he was even once I knew the game series he was in, it's just such an odd batch they've chosen to be the front men for the system :S

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I am no hardcore ape escape fan but even I knew who Spike was. He was one of the most requested characters when the game announced as well as I recall. I know many who were very happy with his inclusion. If you know anything about ape escape, which is a pretty iconic franchise for PS...you should know him. And since you seem to like wiki pages..here you go
http://apeescape.wikia.com/wiki/Spike

as for Radec...yeah he is very well known. If you even remotely know the KZ franchise you should know who Radec is. He is the best possible choice superbot could have gone with in Killzone. He is also VERY popular in the beta. Fantastic character to play as

Really...if they included someone like Rau from Mark of Kri and you guys said it was an odd choice I would have agreed...but Radec and Spike? LOL

So anyways, I think some of the characters in there are quite obscure. I understand the need for quantity, but I would have preferred SuperBot focus on fewer characters, and went from there in quality. So what if there are 8 characters, Tekken 3 existed when Super Smash bros was released, and look at the Character difference then.

Tekken 3 is laced with clones tho :s Anna/Nina, Panda/Kuma/GunJack, Eddy/Tiger and Mokujin who just clones people at random. The first smash bros didn't have clones other than Mario/Luigi

Laced?

More like a light sprinkling considering Tekken 3 had what 25 characters or so?

I assure you, not many people have played any Ape Escape games. They are the games in the shop people browse over and see thinking "I wonder if that's any good". But never buy.

My interest in this game died. Sony doomed All Stars to fail. only 20 characters? I can think of 50 of the top of my head who should be in it, at least 30 and obviously Crash/Spyro/Snake/Cloud

I share the same sentiment.

Although I was corrected when I said that Crash should be in it. It's true that Crash Bandicoot isn't actually a Sony IP and neither are any of the characters you have listed except for Spyro.

I suppose the thinking is that for example, each of the characters you listed are owned by different companies so a seperate licensing deal would be needed for each one which would be very difficult to do and likely quite expensive to risk on a game that could very well bomb.

I still find it hard to believe there are only 20 characters at launch, I'm sure the anticipation of even the people who were very much looking forward to this has been struck down hard.

More important than characters... what is this game "trophies"? The trophies that matter, that you can collect and admire, rotate, zoom  and tell you little things about the company history, etc.

Definitely one of the best parts of smash. 544 to collect just in brawl, plus god knows how many stickers.

This type of game must contain tons of memorabilia/trivia to work, imo.

SOTC didn't set the sales world on fire...nor did franchises like Yakuza (well..outside of JP)...but these franchises are iconic to PS. They have been there from the start and they all have a good fan following.

Almost any PS fan will at least have heard of Ape Escape. I hope sony brings the franchise back in the future.
