| azrm2k said: Y'know the PS3 could very well set records and go wild this year and be #1 before year's end but this story is still pretty dumb. It's not even a survey of gamers or anything. It's tracking page views to gaming websites. Somehow I think such results could be skewed towards the "hardcore" demographic that PS3 and 360 control compared to the more casual Wii fans. "According to IGN GamerMetrics, which monitors the traffic patterns of some 15 million hardcore gamers" Ah yes there it is. |
DING-DING-DING! We have a winner!!
A lot of those games are only 'anticipated' by the people who WANT a PS3 or have one. They don't appeal to EVERYONE. Could little kids play Metal Gear Solid 4, KillZone 2, Gran Turismo 5 etc.? Nah, I don't think so.
"Mommy, can you show me how to hold a gun? Or drive a car?"
Parent: WTF are you talking about?
The Wii (sorry for bringing it up here, but I have a point) applies to everyone. Hardcore or casual, it doesn't matter. Nintendo made it the way it is and it has the price so that literally ANYONE would have one, just to have fun with others or play it themselves.
The PS3 is like a Swiss Army Knife; is a person really going to use all the features the console has? Or are they just going to use it to play games or watch a movie? PS3 is for showing off your money, in my opinion, like a fancy car. A car is only used to get from Point A to Point B. Nothing more or nothing less. Shows like Pimp My Ride is for dumbasses with no conscience of money (even if they pay the car's owner) because a car is a car, not a toy. It's a piece of machinery for operating, not to show off your money.
There was a fricking moron on Doctor Phil (saw it on TV in the lounge where I work) about some dumbass who's $500,000 in debt because he compulsively buys cars to show off to people. As soon as shows off one car, he sees another model he wants, so he goes ahead and buys it. His wife is going to divorce him because of his actions. He has over 20 cars and 5 or so boats. Worst of all is that he cannot pay off his debt because he keeps buying and buying cars nonstop.
A game system is a game system; only for entertainment purposes (Sony started it with PS2 having a built-in DVD player; Xbox had it optional and GameCube had none, except for the Panasonic model) and games. People are going to buy a game system just to play games and have fun. The Wii is priced to be AFFORDABLE and FUN, not some George Foreman grill to have a party with.
