They monitor 15 million hardcore gamers. So what makes someone a hardcore gamer? I can assure you that it is not playing GTA III on PS2 or Halo on Xbox these days. I think its a pretty safe assumption that about 90% of this 15 million already owns either a PS3 or 360 which means there is probably only about 1.5m of them who are looking to purchase. Of those based on current rates about 750k would go to the PS3.
Things can change and some of the 360 owners might get a PS3 thats possible. But if you think that the entire 15 million is shopping for a PS3 you are deluding yourself.
@Article,
It is written so strangely...they are clearly talking about sales rates and how Sony has moved even with the 360 week for week, but its like they want you to draw the conclusion that this alone equates to a comeback. Really though it only equated to a "not falling further behind"...and even then only with respect to the 360, the Wii is still pulling even further ahead of both consoles.
Really though, I have no doubt the PS3 will have a good/great year and it will very likely gain ground throughout the year on the 360 (but not the Wii) and it will get a lot healthier financially speaking. But you don't need to talk to 15 million hardcore gamers to know this.
