Forums - Sony - Was Playstation Home Profitable?

A new free to play MMORPG called Mercia Fractured Realm just got released and every week there is updates on virtual items on Home; I am just wondering if this has been profitable for Sony. You would have to think this is profitable or else why would they keep updating and pour money into it? But again, I don't see alot of major game company developing contents for it, so it is probably just chump changes more suited for smaller development house like Lockwood Publishing and Sony London's inhouse dev team.

What are your thought? And will PS4 launch with some sort of build in meta-game?

Most likely. Those virtual items sell really well.

4 ≈ One

I could imagine a open world city like "Playstationopolis" (dont care about my name for it...) which you can turn as default launch window when you turn on your console.

- turn on your console
- play as your avatar, change clothes, stuff like this
- go into playstation store where you can see videos on monitors, other people around, you can play demos there (streamed) and so on
- buy something
- walk home to your apartment
- start your games from there

... play...

- earn trophies
- invite friends into your trophy room to show em what you got
- earn special items like clothes or decoration or maybe even a pet from getting platinum trophies

Maybe you could even use your apartment as a lounge for online gaming. So what you do is settle up a party, one is host. the others are hanging around at his apartment and they're waiting for the game to launch, etc.

This is what i need to use Playstation Home. I've tried several times to visit Sonys E3 show and stuff or even Audis promotion action, but it just wasn't cool enough.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

"WAS"? It's still alive I'll have you know.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

The question is, will PS Home exist on the PS4?

I think PS Home will likely under go a serious visual change. I think right now they feel Miiverse closely mimics PS Home, but both Microsoft and Nintendo have a more family-friendly service. Sony may be happy with its perception that it's the "Hard Core Console" but it may be lose sales. Especially if Miiverse is well received by consumers.

If it is, Sony will adapt PS Home. If not, I honestly think they'll abandon it. I don't think enough people are actively using it to make it profitable or useful, and right now it isn't integrated (i.e. it can't replace the UMB). I still don't quite understand what PS Home was supposed to be or do

Every time we talk about Home, there's always someone who says this. I'm starting to think it's not down to a lack of advertising, it's just general ignorance from people.

Unless I'm mistaken, isn't WiiU doing something similar to this?

i use to be a permanent Home user, it was fun if you make lots of friends who enjoy in there, i buy lots of contents in it too, but doing glitches is what i most enjoy that time, but i quit cause i really don't wanna spent too much in it, most virtual stuffs are cheap and that will get addicted after buying and buying non-stop new contents... lolx

Due to lack of advertising.
