Forums - Sony - "New" PS3 Pricing Explanation

I guess taxes play a role too. VAT equivalent in Japan is 5%. VAT in the UK is 20%.

On a serious enough note tho, anyone getting the 12gb version will never be getting psn+ infamous 2 alone is a 15gb download... you literally could not install some ps3 retail games on this so yeah... zero ability to use psn+ with this model of the system, baffling when sony are trying to push psn+ more than ever now.

I would get one if there was a ntsc-j/u 12gb version (damn region lock :() because I still have a 60gb and 80gb hdd from my ylod ps3's so I need only a bracket which is maybe $5-10 so its ok for those who wants to save money

Oh wow. Cheapo!  That's pretty horrible isn't it, i was expcring a slow graceful slide to the left, not like an early 80's tape deck smashing open. Those lids are going to break.

What does it opening speed have to with its durability?

umm i thought usa is the new 250gb for $250, $270 is with UC3, before it was 160gbs for $250

same for JP 25000 yen use to get you 160gb now its the newer model with 250gb

EU is 230 for 12gb and 300 for 500gb before it was 250 euros for A 160gb and more than 300 euros for the bigger gb skus

whatever the case the newer 12gb will probably be available in all regions later on down the road, these prices could also be just for now so sony can cash in on early buyers with a possibility of being lower as we get closer to the holidays

It a thin piece of plastic with a spring loaded top, for those of you who didn't live in the 80's they break easily. Usually the plastic will crack or the spring snaps. Watched the the video the new design scream cheap.

it does look rather cheap indeed and yeah I remember all our older tape decks had either cracks on them or chips off the lid because of that really fast snap spring action for it opening but outside of the look of it... how much do ye think it would have cost sony to make this redesign? I mean it's been in the works for a couple of months and there is a whole load of patents on the new designs etc I wonder will they get back their money from just leaving the ps3slim sell away + the money of people getting psn+ that could now be not given that option with the tiny harddrive.

I don't get the 12 gb anyway. Its not like 360 where you can play all games still. PS3 has mandatory installs. So you need and have to buy a HDD.

Wow. Shocked at Sony. This is terrible.

That's what I was thinking. Really sucks for people who buy the 12GB version and don't know any better.
