hmmm...i've just checked this page on wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Failure ) and, much to my surprise, there isn't a link to this thread...yet: we should make an addition (just in time for the total failure of 1st jan 2009).

Anyone care to find out PS2 2001 x-mas numbers and compare them to PS3 2008 x-mas numbers in the same fashion? lol
Will add all data for 2008, after PS3 numbers will get adjusted in Others.
PS3 is doing BETTER, then the estimates, that VGC has for now. =)
Though, maybe will do it earlier. :)
Anyway, for damage control,
PS3 is selling during CRISIS.
Yet, for whole 2nd year(2008) it was doing in EU+US as good as PS2 in EU+US in 2001.
Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...
2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.
Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.
1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far
Lemme give you some numbers:
PS2 Sales from Nov 3, 2001 to Dec 8, 2001 = 3.0 million
PS3 Sales from Nov 1, 2008 to Dec 6, 2008 = 1.3 million
If that doesn't show that the PS3 is in the shithole I don't know what does.

And the Wii, 360, and DS are all selling during the same crisis. 360 is starting to make profits. Nintendo is making even crazier profits, than they already were. The Wii and the DS are selling at a record breaking pace. Much better than that PS2, that you love to talk about, in fact. I'd love to see you do a comparison of Ninty's current profits vs Sony's during the height of the PS2, just to see how you would spin the fact that the Wii & DS will each make more money than the whole PS brand family, combined.
It's hopeless to try to control damage, that's recklessly out of control, but nice try, though. Well... not really, but nice joke thread, anyways. :) :) :) :)

I can post the NPD numbers.
PS2:
Nov 2001 - 920k
Dec 2001 - 1.94 million
PS3:
Nov 2008 - 378k
Dec 2008 - ?
Differential:
Nov - (-542k)
Dec - ?
The rEVOLution is not being televised
also didn't PS2 have a botched launch as they had a severe supply problem and most had to be recalled? Also for the same period haden't the PS2 sold an additional 25m units? Think it is safe to say the PS3 is no PS2 :)

That's why this thread has been so hilarious.
There is no fair and/or useful comparison for PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 except for Japan, the region which Crazzy is now conveniently discounting.
since the first posts aren't being updated, here are some numbers for fun, and for those wondering how far behind it has fallen in this comparison :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Console | PS2 |
Total
|
12,610,297
|
Console | PS3 |
Total
|
9,026,048
|
So the PS3 is currently 3,584,249 units behind.
