As a more rational update, with launches aligned, the PS3 is currently 4.3 million behind the PS2 at this point in Japan, 5.7 million behind the PS2 in North America and 1.1 million behind the PS2 in Europe ( 2.1 behind in Others)

I realize Crazzyman gets mad if you look at them in a more rational way... But what the hey.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

stof, take your logic and get out of this thread.

Crazzyman clearly stated:

IF you DON`T believe in PS3 success - LEAVE this thread.

I'm not an expert but I think that in others many casual PS2 owners are upgrading to the Wii, but that is offset by the expansion of the market. In NA most PS2 owners are sticking with their console for now, so the PS3 could get a big boost when it gets to the $299 price point. In Japan handheld success + Wii success spell rock bottom sales for the PS3, although that could change when FFXIII (one of the biggest games in Japan) and a slim model are released.

Japan is terrible and doesn't look like there is much hope there.
NA is average but there is still hope there as sales have been getting better.

Others is actually doing good and stands a chance to do as well as PS2...( in Europe at least, not sure for total Others).

PS3 is actually selling almost as well as PS2 ( better in recent months) despite the Wii success in Europe...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

No other consol was priced like the ps3 ( except 3do) i guess thats why its having a little trouble matching ps2's sales. and it doesn't look like sony is droping the price anytime soon. BUT...for a console that cost $400 and $500 its selling VERY good.
This kind of consolation rationale was pretty popular when the PS3 first launched, but as time goes on we're seeing less and less potential for the PS3 to pick up momentum, in fact as time passes more and more works against its favor. It's already one of the most obsolete Blu-Ray players on the market, its only saving grace is its price and that won't last for long either.

While everyone sings the praises of what Blu-Ray has done for gaming, it was this reckless implementation of it in its earliest form that has done the most damage to the PS3. While the PS3's Blu-Ray player reads at 2-4x speed other Blu-Ray players are already up to 14-16x speed. Mandatory file instalations wouldn't be are necessity for the PS3 had it featured a more advanced Blu-Ray drive, but unfortunately that wasn't a possibility so Sony had no choice but to force this unproven format prematurely on their next console dooming it not only as the next viable successor to the Playstation brand but its future utility of Blu-Ray in gaming. There is so much the Playstation 3 could have done with Blu-Ray but will never be able to due to its primitive early form of it.

1.  What?  Source plz.  Unless you refer only to disc speed and nothing else?

2.  spelling

Actually the PS3 is doing better than I thought in Others...

The best year for PS2 in Others was 2003 where it sold 7.7 million units there, that year through August 23 the PS2 had sold 2.855 million units there.

So far this year the PS3 has sold 3.346 million units in Others through the same period.

I don't think it will match the 2003 number in the end but it won't be that far and is actually really good...

There are no Blu-Ray players yet which are at 14-16x speed. Fastest Blu-Ray player I found has 6x speed. According to some it is financially impossible to make a Blu-Ray player faster that 12x. DVD's has practical limit of about 20x and CD's 52x speed.

Btw. 2x speed on BR is equal to 8x speed on DVD and 32x on CD.

Actually, there are those who say the PS3 is a good investment as a BR-DVD player because it can be updated to Profile 2.0 -- something that not available for all existing players.

That's what I've heard too.
