Forums - Gaming - Why the dislike for power gaming?

It seems to me that across the internet their is a dislike for something known as "Power Gaming." From my understanding power gaming is pushing the game to its limits through near or completely optimal play. For example using the resto and Ohgma Infinium Glitch in skyrim, topple locking in xenoblade, and using the Homi chart in DQX. Despite power gaming often being on single player games, people get worked up by it. They often claim it takes a way the fun of a game or that it is not how the game was meant to be played. First of all, although the designers may have an intended gameplay they wished to achieve, the only real limit is the games programming. Secondly, more often than not power gaming doesn't effect other people except those involved. So why the dislike for power gaming?

95% of gamers don't know they are noobs, the 5% who do won't be noobs for long

Power gaming as you call it is ok in single player games. It's cheating if other people are involved. Everyone should be on a level playing field.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Moonhero
so you are against cheating in a damn game, but you are happy with dishonest bussines practices?
-_-
on topic, power gaming is an stupid concept, that i even didnt know it existed, although im against cheating in games, obviously, theres no point on playing against cheaters or being one, it kills the fun

Dude, enough coming after me. Get over it.

If you replace "Power Gaming" in your question with "cheating" I think you will see exactly why people are opposed to it ...

If this is somehow going to lead to compulsory game patches for single player then everyone will suffer.

I watched Siglemic stream his WORLD RECORD Super Mario 64 speedrun last month, and he used so many awesome and technical glitches that I'm so glad exist on the cart for 16 years after the game came out.

Your attempt at explaining power gaming left me just as confused as I was when I entered this thread.

What?

I have nothing against it. I believe most people who "power game" have already beaten the game, possibly more than once, and are only looking to prolong enjoyment by using exploits. Unless it's a multiplayer game, or the first playthrough, in which I say.. dirty cheating scumbags! In a polite and inoffensive manner, of course.

I don't see a problem with it. If people want to cheat... or power game, why not. I used to use cheat codes in games back in the days. It was fun, rampaging around with infinite ammo and infinite health, or flying in tony hawk 2 and pulling off infinite combos... also misingno to dupe items in pokemon red.

As long as its just for single player I have no issue with it. But if you do it for online gains then it is unfair.
