Forums - Nintendo - Why Bayonetta 2 Makes Sense For Nintendo

Most 'real' gamers truly want to own all systems so they can gain access to all of the best available games, but most of us make choices due to limited time, money and space. While they may be critical of one or more of the console manufacturers it is mostly meant as constructive criticism. When a game these gamers enjoys moves away from a platform they own to one they don't own they feel a little disappointed and will consider buying the new platform (possibly down the road)

Blind fanboys don't really care about games as much as they care about their preferred system, and when they lose the opportunity to play one of their favourite series because it moved away from their favourite system they lash out in anger.

From day 1 Nintendo is trying to increase the number of quality "hardcore" gaming experiences on the Wii U so that they will have dozens of examples of games that were successful to point to when publishers say "those kinds of games don't sell well on Nintendo systems" ...

I'm not disputing Nintendo's desire to improve their hardcore userbase. Its commendable.

What I am upset with is that I spent money buying Bayonetta (day 1) as did 1 million+ Xbox and PS3 consumers. Without our support Bayonetta would have not been a success and Plantium Games would have not been able to commission a sequel. Its fine they want to put it on the Wii U, but its unfair to make it exclusive for that platform because its the PS3 and Xbox consumers who made that game successful.

I think I know whats really going on. Which is why I'm not that upset at the moment. And don't get me wrong I've seen the comments on Twitter to Platinum Games, and those users are disgraceful to the gaming community. I'm not condoning their behaviour, but I am dissapointed that Platinum Games decided to make the game exclusive.

This really comes down to your brand loyalty to your console manufacturer. If Bayonetta 2 was coming out on the Xbox 720 and PS4, you wouldn't be upset. But wait -- you'd still have to buy a new console for it! So in the end it comes down to the negative bias towards Nintendo and how they're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

1) Nintendo has no core games! --> 2) All the core games on the Wii U are multiplats and not exclusive! --> 3) Fuck Nintendo for getting exclusive core games!

No, not at all, its commendable what Nintendo are doing with the Wii U.

Ultimately I think its to do with Platinum Games and Sega not Nintendo. Maybe Platinum decided to reach out to Nintendo, we don't know what the story is here. They could've easily approached a multiplatform publisher like Capcom or Square Enix, and I don't see why Sega couldn't have published the game themselves.

I don't really know why Platinum Games have decided to make the game exclusive, I think it should be a multiplatform title, it dosent really have anything to do with Nintendo, even if I didn't like them, as long as it was coming out for each platform I wouldn't be bothered if it came out on the Wii U. But I think it will be timed exclusive anyway.

Remember though that the XBox 360 and PS3 gamers made it "successful" enough that the sequel wasn't going to be made without Nintendo publishing it ...

Essentially, the question these gamers have to ask themselves is whether it is better that it is a Wii U exclusive or that the game is never made at all.

I'm not sure if I believe that. If thats the case then they could have easily approached a multiplatform publisher like Capcom or Sqaure Enix. Why Nintendo? Did Nintendo pay for exclusivity? It's not making much sense to me, unless its a timed exclusive.

Restoring OP...

Thanks Mr Khan! Those blank OPs get annoying. >_>

Some have wrongfully criticized Platinum Games for alienating their fanbase, while others chastise Nintendo for trying to ‘lure’ gamers into buying the WiiU by snatching up exclusives.

How the bolded can be said to be a bad thing by any non-Nintendo fan is just asinine and hypocritical.

"Perhaps fans should complain that Sony is forcing gamers to buy a PS3 to play Metal Gear Solid 4?"

Thats the most ridiculous thing i've read in YEARS.

BINGO.

What this development really did was expose people's vitriolic disdain for Nintendo more than anything else.

Based off everything that has been presented, they obviously tried to get a sequel made with the original publisher but it was cancelled. Sega still probably has a stake in the franchise and such the game was dead, no other company went to Sega to publish it. Nintendo needing a exclusive that could help it stand out among it's competition contacted Platinum to develop for them, crafting Wonderful 101. One of the cancelled Bayonetta 2 team probably brought up the idea to someone at Nintendo, who having a good relationship with Sega, made them an offer and the game was revived.

Nintendo could have easily had Platinum Games create an original property for them that was less controversal (because since her debut trailer Bayonetta has been a controversy magnet) but someone sold them on doing Bayonetta and they bought into it. They wouldn't have sold it to Nintendo unless they really liked the hardware or the chances of another deal were slim to none.

Hmm... I think wfz was right and maybe you probably don't want to admit it.

Given what we know: the game being canceled - we sort of extrapolate what happened behind the scenes: Nintendo swooping in the save it > gave Platinum the funding they needed which Sega could not provide > Nintendo locks up exclusvity as a condition.  That story makes sense.  And that being as it is, how can you still blame Platinum and Sega?  Even making up your own scenario to justify your disappointment (i.e: Platinum went to Nintendo).  Sega couldn't publish it themselves, they already said they wanted to take fewer risks, save money, focus on their own franchises, and pulled their support from the Bayonetta 2 project!

I don't think the decision to make it exclusive was Platinum's decision at all.  I think it was Nintendo's (especially consider they are PUBLISHING it).

You can try to envision any scenario you want, but nothing you said is consistent with want we actually know to be true.

This is all I have to say...
