Forums - Nintendo - Any Place I can Camp out for a Wii U, or is it Preorder only?

So, I ended up not preordering a Wii U.  Originally I wanted to preorder on Amazon, but then they weren't taking preorders.  Then I was going to preorder at Best Buy, but I couldn't find my Best Buy reward card and didn't feel like ordering anything large without it.  Also didn't want to order at Gaem Stop as I do what I can to not support them.

I still fondly remember camping out at Rhino games (RIP) for my Wii U.  Anyone know of places were one can camp out now a days?  Or is it all about the preorder now? Play N Trade maybe?

If you buy from Best-Buy, you can get that order added to your Rewards Club thing post-purchase. All you need is sign in to your Rewards website, and then add the order number which will be on the receipt.

I believe GameStop, Best Buy, and Target have all run out of their pre-order allotments.

I checked recently and Walmart is still taking pre-orders buy they require their own "your choice" custom bundle for $400 to $450 (you get 1 additional game of your choice and Wii Motion Plus controller of your choice)... which if you pick $60 games and controller is $40, isn't really marked up. Just be careful not to pick one of the $50 games for that bundle. For example, Rayman Legends is $50 and selectable in that bundle, while ZombiU is $60 and selectable in that bundle as well. They don't let you get Skylanders Giant in that same bundle without an additional $15 cost.

I choose to do an in-store pre-order rather than online purchase for myself, because I want to enjoy going to store to pick mine up, rather than wait for it to get delivered via mail. I will also be able to pick up any other games as I finalize those decisions leading up to launch day.

You camped at Rhino? So did I. I was first at my store. Love and miss Rhino!

hmm.. I suspect Nintendo will make some more units available for preorder in some weeks
this first wave of preoders probably is just a low end prediction of what they are able to produce and ship until launch

atleast that would make sense to me, but well .. I might be wrong on that

I went into my local Best Buy this morning to pick up Kirby Dream Collection, and they had a ton of Basic and Deluxe pre-orders left, and they only take $5 down.  Even if you want to put more down, they only accept $5.  So much better than GameStop.

Wal-Mart is actually one of the best places to camp out, since I don't think they do in-store preorders (though they do online ones)

This is where I got my Wii back in 2006 by camping out (I was 28 out of 32 Wii's available). Ah the memories...

@SpazzyD

I did the same thing at Target that year lol.  They had 36 Wii's for launch day and I was 15th in line.  Awesome memories.

Miss Rhino.... hate Game Stop for putting EVERY other gaming store, all of which I liked more then Game Stop, out of business.  Went to the Rhino in Orlando,  actually had a guy living on my porch and behind on rent at the time (long story), and I let him slide on paying money if he camped out for me for a day and half.  Eventually met up with him, hung out with all the other people who were waiting, played some DS, and had a great all around time.

Just to update my situation, I broke down and after searching all over the web ended up getting a preorder at Walmart.com, which made me feel dirty. Not sure if it guarantees anything though. When I added the Wii-U to my cart it said it would it would ship by 12/31/12, and my actual invoice said it would arrive by November 25th. In addition to that, Walmart makes you buy it in a bundle with a game (which I would have gotten anyway, got Ninja Gaiden and will pick up Zombie-U and New Super Mario Bros. whenever I actually get the system.) and a black Wii Remote (which I wouldn't have got) for an extra 100 dollars.

The price you pay for waiting.

Walmart makes me feel that way too, don't worry.

You also might want to replace Wii with Wii U in your OP. ;)
