Forums - Nintendo - Really? Nobody is impressed with what they showed with Nintendo TVii?

I am kind of impressed but all of this is irrelevant in Europe at least in my country because we dont even have HDTV the broadcasters want us to pay extra money to receive HD channels want to force us into contracts so we would have to pay another HD year after the 1 year contract is over etc etc.

They made HD not available on freeview/DVB-T on purpose because they cant control who receives it and wont make money this way. So there is no way they would add any kind of FREE info etc for the WiiU.

They even made all the HDTV's that had the ability to receive HD via calbe semi-useless because they invented HD+ a new standard that will prevend your pre 2009 HDTVs from receiving HDTV signals correctly and this can also be used to block recording of tv shows  or skipping commercials.

I'm impressed. I'm starting to wonder, if I get a Wii U and sign up for Netflix, do I even need cable any more?

That really depends on how much cable you watch. My wife and I have never had cable because Netflix covers the vast majority of what we want to watch, and there's only a little bit that it doesn't cover.

They said the menu will be depending on the region.. Europa to.. :) i know netflix is comming to denmark pretty soon.. and the hole streaming thing is really going to get big... fast.. and it interacs with the live tv (in all contrys) too.. On top of that.. mayby there will be one more icon revealed.. Harddrive..

= The all in one (and in the same time better, faster, and smoother than ever) TV solution.. And in the same time best tv internet and games solution..

its not all that, IMHO. its not bad cool little thing to have but nothing to go gaga over, all those services are available on multiple devices. You cant really take advantage of it outside the home as for it interacting with other people, i didnt care about Netflix doing that on 360 and i wont care about it doing it on Wii U, if im watching a show im not trying to talk to anyone

Of course my Galaxy S3 would take care of all that (or my Transformer Prime, or a shit ton of computers in my house), I'm talking more brainless on the couch experience that's more integrated, with the way 360 and PS3 handle them, they act as different apps, but with the Wii U, it feels a lot more streamlined and all in one, it just feels better when I look at it when they did the presentation. It's not so much whether you guys use it or not, but the evolvement of the console media space I'm looking at since a lot of people use their consoles as a media device these days.

dont really care about it being streamlined, since i only use one app, Netflix so for me this isnt anything really special, but if you're pumpled have at it. never really cared for looks as long as the actual apps work.

I can totally understand where you are coming from, and I don't even have any of those services, what I'm trying to convey is that while people like you and me don't require such services, I can see a lot of people benefitting from it because it looks really well designed.

Tablets, Tablets, We don't need no stinking Tablets. Have you forgotten that the 360 can be operated via voice, or with simple hand gestures. I literally don't need any controller to watch movies on my 360. Your extolling this all as being a virtue. When it is entirely superfluous, and may in practice be counter productive. That controller isn't very practical at all. It is a large, requires two hands to use, and must be referenced via the eyes.

That controller is just a lot of needless clutter. Who wants to use a interface to watch movies that requires the use of both hands. Plus requires you to look at it. When standard television remotes can be operated by feel, and the same goes for standard game controllers. The input is basically simultaneous. Where as the Wii U controller is going to be more time consuming.

It all comes across as a device forcibly justifying its own existence. That screen is just getting in the way of what is already a seamless experience. What Nintendo needs to be doing is using that interface for video manipulation at a more profound level. Children should be using it to do math problems while viewing educational programing, and adults should be using it to play games overlaid on top of television shows.

We don't need a more complicated television remote. If that is the only case being made. Then it shows that Nintendo is just copying everyone else. Worse it seems like they are straying from one of the cooler ideas that they had going for them. Namely that you could play games, and watch television at the same time. I mean the 360 can still run live in the background. So why can't the machine play games, and stream movies at the same time. It is a newer device after all.

There's absolutely good video control on the tablet in its default included package, if you've ever used a touch device before, you'd know media is the one thing that touch control excels at. It also has a mic so I wouldn't rule out voice control in the future either ^_-b

The Piratebay is enough to fill my tv needs.

maybe I missed that point, but this whole thing would be much better if you could watch on the wiiu-tablet while your family watches sth else on the TV

Indeed, pretty impressive!
even though this looks like USA & Canada only, I already use my wii and even the 3ds to watch some movies thru netflix so this comes in handy! Well done nintendo, well done!

i was completely blown away by TVii, but i just don't really care since i don't use anything but netflix. I'm a poor kid. But i did since the potential for someone with alot of income that can afford to have like 5 different video sources. Outstanding.
