Forums - Gaming - Bayonetta 2: Developers Explain Why They Sided With Nintendo

It's good Bayonetta 2 is receiving so much attention. But yeah, in the end it was all about the money and saving a franchise from dying. I see no problem with that. If exclusive is the only way it can be salvaged then so be it. For all the haters though, if you really love the franchise and don't want to buy a Wii U, just watch gameplay footage on Youtube or TwitchTV, that'll hold you over I'm sure.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

I don't think Nintendo threw money at Sega for Bayonetta 2, Sega have all but confirmed they are abandoning physical retail releases barring their biggest franchises and going primarily digital. I think Bayonetta 2 was a casualty of this and Nintendo saw a near finished title that they could get fairly cheap that had a fairly solid install base.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

"we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of Platinum Games" > you just did, 350€ is hell alienating to me.

"allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch" > I sense some contradiction here.

Well those villains will have to brace themselves for a haaaaaard twitter week-end 'cause I'm coming give them a piece of my mind!

from where is that ? translation please !!!

Just a joke on my part. Even if i support Platinum's move here (which i very much do) i agree that they should just say it was about money and be done with it. So i said it in Japanese "Nintendo gave us money. We love Nintendo!"

Nintendo is written 任天堂 in Japanese.

I loved the first one and enjoy Platinums' games but it really just feels like a classless move. A middle finger to around 2 million buyers of the PS3 and 360 supporters of the original game.

Whatever is said by them will strictly be to gloss things over or cover their a**.

What else where they suppossed to do? Nobody else wanted to publish for them. Sega dropped them. And it should b understandable if Nintendo don´t want to publish Multiplats.

I keep seeing people repeat this rumor as fact but I can't find any kind of confirmation anywhere.

"Supervisor Hideki Kamiya boasted of a successful secret. "Even though there has been a bit of a gap since the release of the last game, but I still got lots of request for a sequel from gamers. We were secretly making one the entire time." Kamiya said he is supervising the "world, story, characters, etc." and working closely with new director Hashimoto."  --   http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/14/platinum-breaks-the-silence-after-bayonetta-2-announcement/

The game was never canceled, period.

Most likely, Nintendo worked out a deal with PG and SEGA a long time ago to take over publishing rights, which in turn started the rumor that SEGA had declined to publish Bayonetta 2.  The original sold 2 million copies, a sequel was almost a given.

This is completely about Nintendo showing PG and SEGA the money.  My guess is that Nintendo has commited a LOT of funds, enough to make up for the sales Bayonetta 2 will lose by not going multi-plat.  They seem pretty set on proving the Wii U will have "adult" games.  However, PG is also giving up the loyalty of many fans, which I'm not entirely sure will be good for them in the future.  Only time will tell.

Uh no, this happens all the time, a developer will often continue developing a game when they lose a publisher, hoping to find another publisher.

For example Itagaki's Devil's Third game or whatever is in the same state of limbo right now too, but I gauruntee his team is continuing to work away on it.

Sega is in massive trouble right now. That is not a conspiracy or a joke, their last round of financials have forced massive layoffs and restructuring. They are basically moving out of retail games period outside of the Sonic/Soccer Manager/Aliens brands.

Bayonetta 2 was not going to happen without Nintendo. And why are people upset? Now Platinum has one platform, which is more powerful than either the PS3/360 that they can work on instead of having to divide their resources on 2 different versions. These people are just stupid. They're going to get a better product at the end of the day most likely.

Near launch and has got a lot of attention.

The economy is causing a lot of devs to drop left and right, looks like Sega is getting rocked hard right now. Nintendo should just buy all their IP and hire Yuji Naka to manage them.
