Thanks for the info SuperChunk. Very interesting that it uses a Cortex-A15. Off the top of my head I think it's the first consumer product that uses the A15 core. Wonder how long before we see next gen Tegra and Exynos based products coming out using the A15.

Is it just me or does Tegra3 already outshine Vita? I know it currently uses A9 but it's quad core, clocked at 1.2-1.6GHz, the GPU seems to be well supported by developers and has some incredible looking games. I was very impressed with some of the games on my Nexus 7 yet that's the weaker of the chips and with a higher res screen than Vita to boot.

I believe Samsung has their A15 chips slated for Q4 this year. No idea for Nvidia.

Perhaps we will see Samsungs first on the next Nexus phone.

Vita's GPU is better than Tegra 3's, but support does do wonders. Tegra Zone games on the Asus Transformer Infinity Pad look great.

The new A6 chip has been confirmed to be ARM Cortex A15?

Yes... its all over the net.

I couldn't find it :P

Anyways, that is surely a game changer. GPU wise, it's on par with the Vita, but CPU wise it will be the best any consumer device has to offer.

I really don't see the point of this thread other than you gloating about you being right about something which was going to be a given in that a future portable device would one day have superior hardware specs compared to the Vita.

As to your other point you are comparing apples and oranges. Dedicated gaming handhelds cater to a different market although I would agree that smartphones are taking a large chunk of casual gamers away.

The comments from Kowenicki and disolitude are hilarious as well. I wonder if you guys would be making such comments if this was an identical thread about a Microsoft device.

It is and we'll see more before this year is out, probably from all Android OEMs.

That is actually why I stated Vita will be surpassed before year is out originally as I knew the A15s were to launch by then. :)

Tegra3 CPU is likely better than Vita's but the GPU is definitely not in most tests... or all tests I think. But it does get a decent game selection so far.

My body is ready.

Haha!

Though it's esentially the same GPU, I think the Vita has the upper hand due to dedicated vRAM.

Your completly right on this one.

But complely wrong about phones being equivalent to next gen consoles in 1 year. Itll take 4 years minimum. Every rumor points to 720 haveing 8 - 10 core CPU, you wont see something like that feasable in a phone for a very long time

Hey Chunk, why not add the 3DS specs in there as well? I know that the 3DS may not have the latest and greatest CPUs and GPUs but looking at the games currently available out on all 3 platforms the 3DS is still competitive. Just look at RE:R, DOA:D, and KI:U, which shows that the system can visually (so far) compete with what's out there in the portable arena. If you don't have the info on it hope this helps :

I've seen it mentioned that the Nvidia GPUs are weaker than the latest batch of chips from PowerVR, but Nvidia have really pushed the developer side of things and added in a range of effects. I was shocked by some of the graphical quality on show.

If the Nexus phone is any good I may just go for that next year, although the Nokia Lumia 920 looks tempting too.

My point in these comparisons has always been the same, to support my idea that Vita should have been a gaming centric smartphone. I think it would have fared far better, been more profitable (not stuck to a lower price, contracts FTW!), and could be replaced/upgraded every couple years to maximise savings and broaden Playstation's mobile brand. The fact that it took less than a year for  phone to surpass it in raw power (and only opening day to surpass it in sales) shows that a dedicated handheld focused on the core gamer/high end tech is just a bad business decision. They need a more flexible design that can move with technology while providing superior gaming experience as well as the features a core-gamer aged 18+ is likely going to demand... i.e. a smartphone.

wtf have you been reading? I've seen 4 to 6 cores as the solid info rumors and one 16core rumor that everyone acknowledged as crap.
