Hell no. Never liked motion controls myself, so this is a welcomed change for me.
Still... Metroid and Zombie U might be the only FPS's I buy for the system. Or at least that's how it looks at the moment.

I prefer point and shoot... it gives a more realistic feel (even if it wasn't perfect). A lot of people are awesome with the dual analog so maybe I just excel with the IR pointer and suck at dual analog... either way, if the game is cool I will probably get it

A) no i'm not making it up. B) sorry, but if i have to spend 5 min customizing the control scheme to make the game not suck ... then the control scheme sucks. with the wiimote i have flicker to deal with (sorry but my gaming room is sunny) which makes the controls go crazy. ps Move doesn't have the flicker issue but it doesn't stay calibrated well enough for long enough. in either case calibration is never actually correct...by that i mean pointing straight at the thing i want to shoot on the screen never puts the aiming reticule on the thing i want to shoot. i'm sorry, but aiming 3 feet above my target to hit my target isn't fun. ..but then there's the real issue. rest. i'm not an idiot, i get that sitting down on the couch works better than standing. but because every fps i've played has the same mouse/keyboard deadzone type controls ... if you rest even a tiny tinsty little bit at any point that isn't a cut scene your characters starts turning in ridiculously awkard fashions. now go read kyliedog's post. he states better than i could about turning and aiming.
i'm sorry but dual analog has far more precise control. so back to what i said, pointer control is kind fun of for slow paced, single player games set to easy mode. IR works well enough there and is sometimes it is a refreshing alternative. but to be competitive...i'm sorry but dual analog wins. |
Well if 5 mins is too much to dedicate to controls then its amazing you play games at all.
@ bolded not sure what you mean, but you do know you have to point at the IR sensor and not actually on screen, which convinces me more you are making this up because as Phenom08 pointed out it seems you never put enough time into wii controls to come up with a sound judgement for it, if you actually ever used it for that matter.
And as Phenom08 pointed out again there are many options available with customizing wii controls.

If your problem is that pointing directly at something shows the reticule several inches above the target, that tells me you are holding your arm out like a gun.
Sit down, rest your arm on your thigh, pillow, dog, whatever and try again. Your brain recalibrates your aim automatically.

Hmmm so we meet again *old kung fu master voice* If you played with the default control setup of course you are going to run into problems with pointer controls, that's why competent developers allows you to customize it. And if you have been gaming for more than at least 5 years the first thing any gamer does is check the options for control schemes or setups, how long have we been changing default control setup since what snes era. So if you had a problem with the controls its your fault if you could not check the options menu not the contoller. Thats the equivalent of me being upset with capcom for placing the default buttons for street fighter where they are then saying the game is broken. And thats why I asked is he making this up? . P.s. I have seen women in the office adjust mouse speed while playing zuma when they don't like the controls. |
Actually i rarely change the default settings on most of my games because i find that they are pretty well don already. And dont you find it a bit ironic that IR is supposed to make it easier but some have to do heavy tweaking to get it to work properly?? Then again that doesnt apply for all games, GE default sucks balls, but KZ3 was damn near perfect and only required minor tweaking. Maybe its the tech or the devs. Some people just dont like the IR, deal with and move on.

IR takes tweaking because of the bounding box preferences of many gamers is varied. Some prefer a large boudning box where the camera doesn't move until you damn near point at the edge of the screen. Others like the quick camera action of a tiny bounding box. And many more still like something in the middle.

And that's valid. Though I've seen on many occasions those that don't like it never gave it a fair try or had the misfortune of playing in a room bathed in infrared. Mind you I'm not saying this the cirucmstances for all of them.
But if you want to talk ironic, I can't point you, as it were, to several gamers that chided IR controls until Sony announced Move. Key word was announced. As in they hadn't even tried it yet. Suddenly it became a great control method.

Fair enough, some people dont give it a fair chance, hell im guilty myself i didnt use IR for GE online for awhile until i really sat down and tweaked the controls.
Id like to see these comments about Move, i can only speak for myself, but i never had an issue with IR control but with the general lack of accuracy with the Wiimote period, so when Sony announced the Move, i was happy that we would be getting a motion device that really worked. Granted that there was motion+ but that thing got even less support than Move. I think thats where some of the comments might have arisen from, i have seen what you say.
I wouldn't pass up one I really wanted if it didn't support IR, but I would hope that the developer would smarten up and include the superior control scheme somewhere down the line with a patch.
