I wonder why doesn't he put up a kickstarter for Dementium III
"We have ported Mutant Mudds to the PC. The result is a pretty great version of the game imo that sports 20 new levels, on-line leader boards, nifty depth-of-field effects, and an all-around solid package. I am proud of the game. The reason we devoted our time to this port was to bring the experience that many Nintendo fans have enjoyed to a new audience on the PC. And, yeah, to make some money!
In fact, money was one of the main reasons we developed the port. You see, the eShop version sold pretty well, which helped pay back our investment into the development of the game – which is totally awesome, and I feel lucky and I am thankful it achieved this. But now, we need to figure out how to fund future development.
Please don’t offer kickstarter as the solution, in your comment below. You and I can chat about that some other time, cool?"
I don't understand anyone's problem with this. Not only does this guy ooze class, turning away from kickstarter (not that I have anything against it), he's making an appeal to both Nintendo fans AND PC fans.
It's tough to make exclusives in this market, especially for a new console with a relatively small install base, and especially for smaller developers like Renegade Kid. It makes perfect sense for him to go multi-plat with his games. I wouldn't care if they were on PS or 360, but honestly I think PC, specifically Steam as he mentioned, is the best bet. I hope Renegade Kid ports more games to Steam in the future (or simply develops multi-plat with simultaneous releases), so that PC gamers who aren't interested in Nintendo consoles can play their games. The Steam community is great for smaller games; if they keep this up, I doubt they'll have to worry about funds again down the line.
