Forums - Sony - The Last of Us - Pax Demo - Proof that it's not scripted

there're many gameplay aspects shown in this video that are really exciting to me
the way the bottle was used as a diversion reminds me a lot of tapping on walls and stuff in mgs
and i think its pretty cool that you can pick stuff up and either throw it or use it in close quarters against the enemy
and also being able to use the enemy as a human sheild
i'm really liking what i'm seeing so far

It's never realistic to compare console titles to that of PC games (especially a PC from two years ago till current day - when this console is nearly six years old). It looks fantastic for what it's running on and that's all that it really needs.

im just mad ND aint releasing it on PC

im sure when it releases it will win plenty of graphics awards, but its hard to compare it to other titles when most games have been open world and FP the games that are in 3rd person are war themed or shooter heavy which have much more enemies and other moving things on display so this and UC are always goint to be able to push more visuals

Outside of personal rants, I don't see the need to compare it to open world games, PC games, or even the Uncharted titles. It's just monotonous. I wouldn't mind a PC-esque experience like this either, but if I can't have it, I'll look for where it's available.

It's great that there are games like this for people who look for experiences like it (although hardly anything plays out like The Last Of Us and absolutely nothing has blended animations and dynamic game-play together quite as good).

Clearly you didn't understand what he was trying to say.  Please take off your naughty dog goggles for a second and just focus please.  He was saying that naughtydog games will have the graphical edge because they tend to have less characters on the screen (which is true) and they aren't open world so they're not having to conserve polygons like open world games do for being of course more open.  Also being owned by Sony they know more clearly how to control the hardware so that helps. Also an argument can be made for the animations and dynamic gameplay.  It is still scripted to a degree.  Regardless how you slice it.  Only the choices are more dynamic.  Which still leads to a scripted cene eventually.

Look amazing and that lightning is perfect.

Also dont feed the troll, i am sure in a couple of hours he will be banned by something

I presume you were referring to me?  Considering I only speak the truth, I'm clearly not a troll.  I've brought up citation and video evidence, whereas the only thing you've brought were baseless insults.

speaking of banned, they sent me a warning for saying *copied* saying i was trolling. So i replied saying why don't you read the damn post, cause its only a explanation on everyone copies in gaming, its a compliment not anything bad, more like inspiration lol. I'll probably be banned in hours for making em look dumb. I'm going to try make a topic and show the screenshots. But i need 50 comments atleast -.-. Oh wait i said it here, guess im doomed lol. They need to fix this mod, its way to sensitive.

Guys, you're killing me slowly.

Stop the name calling and personal insults. It will not be tolerated. Errorpwns, you've made your point... and I suggest you leave things be. No need to get rises out of folks.

Let's keep discussion civil and on topic. Please.

could you watch it and tell me if any part of the story is revealed? i dont want to watch to much of the game :( i wanna watch this so bad!!

It's full of gameplay spoilers... there is within game dialog... but no "cutscene" that you might consider a story spoiler.

This game and this thread are related.

If you expect to last long here, you should leave your insults at the door.

Now to the topic - I completely understood what he was saying and offered a rebuttal, one that I don't think he saw a need to contest (which doesn't mean eithwer side was wrong, just differ in thought). Besides, I agree that this (as with most console games) can't compete with many, many PC titles and / or aren't as stressed as titles doing more. I just don't see what makes it relevant (and don't know either way what ND could pull of with an open world). It's specualtive at best and pointless to pursue until it happens.

I wasn't insulting anybody, and I'm not even quite sure what you're getting at. Open World games require more resources than linear corridor games.  Since they have to render a larger space of polygons.  Whereas corridor games or closed space games can fit more polygons into a smaller region. He was simply saying why Naughty Dog is able to achieve slightly better visuals than other games.  Not that other game genres are better, or etc.  If they made an open world game they probably wouldn't get much better visuals than the GTA games.  Unless they wanted loads of texture pop in.  It isn't naughty dogs fault, just the limitations of consoles.  With 256mb of video ram you're not gonna get  alot.  It's impressive what Naughty Dogs managed to do with so little resources though.  Just as he said with less NPCs they can also dedicate more resources to other things.  As detailed NPCs require a large amount of polygons usually and consume a good amount of resources regardless.  Even on a PC if you flood a map with a bunch of NPCs or enemies the PC will begin to suffer from FPS issues on single player.  As your PC is having to render each individual character.  I suppose looking back my first part was a little rude, but it really wasn't an insult.
