Forums - Nintendo - A comparison of Nintendo console launch prices

I thought there were four N64 games at launch. M64 Wave Race are the two I bought and I know I got it right about at launch. I remember Pilot Wings, but I can't think of the 4th.

In japan, there were just 2 titles at the launch of the n64, in late 1996. It launched in spring 1997 elsewhere, with more games

It launched with just those two games in the U.S., too.  I had to wait a few weeks to get Wave Race, the third game of the "launch window".  In fact, I had to order it and wait for it to release.

Wow... I don't remember their older consoles being so cheap (for the time IDK but I'm talking about modern pricing)!

Would be good if someone could do a table with the dollar adjusted to the inflation and also the yen exchange rate at the time. Both factors are so important that the dollar amount on its own means next to nothing if not taken into account.

Proud poster of the 10000th reply at the Official Smash Bros Update Thread.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

As a "basic" system packaged with a single game $300 is a good price for the Wii U, if they want to do a "family pack" (which would possibly be a good idea) some additional accessories and a second game for $400 would be a good option, but I don't see much need to create a SKU without a game and sell it for less.

Yeah, when you're 10 years old, $199 may as well be a million dollars.

My parents bought me everything except the Wii... which took me a long time to save for, but I got it launch day!
