lol, have there been a significant number of new Vita games revealed at that event?

For  PS Vita, a decent number. More reveals then anything else, and PS Vita has a way better fall and winter then 3ds. As well as PS Vita having a good bundle with free LBP and mem, with no region lock, and downloadable everything, plus he has ps3 that adds cross buy for alot of psn stuff like, shound shapes, guacamelee, ratchet and clank, psasbr and so on and versions of games running as good as the system version NFS and Sonic & allstars transformed while the 3ds couldnt run the engine. For any handheld multiplat game, it would ALWAYS be a better choice on PS Vita vs 3DS, even japan knows that Time Travellers on Vita beat 3DS first weeks lol vita has under 1mill consoles in japan and 3ds atlease 4mill and it still outsold it. But even so if your nt a nintendo extreme fanboy it would be pretty clear. Cant wait for so much this year on vita as well as ps3 im a be drained

People act like it's the end of the world if the Vita dies.  Well, is it?  Let's ask Ivan Drago.  Hey, Ivan.  What if the Vita doesn't get support in 2013?

So, there you have it.  No big deal.  Just don't go to Japan to fight Nintendo in a boxing ring.  Everything Mario punches, he destroys.

If you are a gamer, then yes, you should buy a 3DS AND Vita.

Haha I wanted to say that but I was sure Pezus would say something like "I'm broke" :P

He'll be broke...but hey at least he'll be happy :D

Yup much better to be a happy crab than a sad crab!

You've....said very little that has actually addressed any of the concerns I've brought up. Namely, a lack of original titles coming now or in the near future.

And I've also not wholeheartedy endorsed the 3DS here either, so I'm not really sure we're your getting this whole "Nintendo extreme fanboy" thing from, giving I imported a Vita from Japan and paid more mind to its line up when I went to E3. All I really see here is a lack of a compelling argument on your part. At least, one that actually addresses my criticisms of the Vita.

I've already said if he likes the idea of cross platform games on the Vita, of PSP and PSone games on the Vita, of PS3 games on the Vita, there are things for him to like here. My main concern was, and remains, compelling, original, exclusive software coming to the system in the near future. My point is not that he should never get a Vita. My point, as VITA OWNER myself, is that there isn't really much of a reason to get one now.

Since you own a PSP, OP, I would personally suggest just buying more DIGITAL software on that platform. Between the Vita and 3DS, I would personally recommend getting a 3DS. It currently has a larger selection of games you can't play yet, both on the DS, 3DS, and on the eShop, where you have a variety of Virtual Console games, as well as some superb DSiWare and eShop games like Shantae, Mighty Milky Way, VVVVVV, Mighty Switch Force, Mutant Mudds, Pushmo, Cave Story, and Dark Void Zero. However I would NOT recommend importing a 3DS either, because of aforementioned region lock. Very few 3DS retail titles have any plans to be made available digitally, and while Nintendo is going for a more digitally focused strategy they certainly aren't there yet.

Buy a 3DS, but buy it locally. If imports are the only option, I would personally recommend just not wasting the money until about a year from now, when the Vita itself has a more compelling line up, a more developed library and maybe even a cheaper price and slimmer design. In the mean time the money can go to buying some PSP games digitally. Might I recommend Megaman X?

Edit: Honestly, have you considered just asking for a DS? That has a lot of the games that make a 3DS worth buying for you, including some quality Mario games, other platformers, and the latest Pokemon games. It is also region free and can be bought used for uber cheap. I would personally recommend getting a DS Lite since it can also play GBA games.

You're a sony fanboy? Then you should buy the 3DS. Not because its a great handheld, but because its nintendo. Sony pretty much banked off Nintendo a long time ago. Remember the (PSX or PS1), well that was originally an nintendo idea.

@knuckles87

Check out Tearaway, Soul Sacrifice, When Vikings Attack, Warrior's Lair, and Smart As. I'm guessing you might already have Gravity Rush, it seems like a sequel is coming. Already there is Escape Plan, Little Deviants, Unit 13, Army Corps of Hell, Reality Fighters, and Tales of Montezuma Blitz to satisfy gamers intersted in new IPs as specifically as you are.

@iFlow

lol

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Tearaway looks FRIGGIN INCREDIBLE. It also doesn't have a set date. Soul Sacrifice also looks neat, but it also doesn't have a set date. The next two titles are rather low budget looking PS3 titles, and the last one is...a brain trainer. Not saying they won't be fun (well, aside from the brain trainer. That looked pretty boring), but those games will be playable by any PS3 owner. Not compelling reasons to buy a Vita now.

Again, you aren't really refuting my point, though I appreciate giving me actual names.

Little Deviants, Reality Fighters and Army Corps just aren't very good games. The others you mentioned were fun, but comprise pretty much the entirety of the Vita's original software line up that I haven't already mentioned. I didn't bring them up to begin with because they didn't leave much of an impression on me personally.

I didn't come to this opinion of the Vita without doing my share of research. Both at E3 and throughout the summer I've kept looking for titles coming to the system that I missed, because I couldn't believe how barebones this holiday season and Q1 '13, typically the busiest parts of the year for video game software, were looking. I couldn't believe I was going month after month without playing anything new on my Vita, I couldn't believe the next big title I was looking forward to after the launch line up was Gravity Rush...which ended up being delayed into June. Every few weeks I've checked the PS Store, only to find very little to actually buy. When I'm finding more to get on a Nintendo digital network, there is a VERY big problem.

While looking up the titles mentioned, I watched some videos. Figure I'll post them hear for the benefit of the OP.

I didn't know those two were also PS3, there are more but I'm not fully aware of them. M.U.G.E.N. or Runa would be able to give you a full list. Soul Sacrifice is slated for a March 2013 release actually, so you have that to look forward to. It plays supposedly like Monster Hunter, but it is very unique and with an atmosphere more like Demon's Souls. Very multiplayer centric as well. As for Smart As....atleast they got John Cleese from Monty Python to do the voice.

There is sort of a game drought for the system, kind of forces you to look back at games you overlooked, but with PSone classics just launched there insn't a shortage of stuff to play. Though I guess there never was with PSP games and Minis. Vita has a lot of new IPs for being such a young system but even outside of that the thing is powerful enough to have known IPs release games on the level of current home consoles, like Uncharted:GA, AC3:Liberation, LittleBigPlanet, (maybe) Call of Duty, and that phenominal looking Killzone Mercenaries. Good games are going to start rolling out every month starting with LittleBigPlanet this month.

I know its been kind of touch and go for games since launch but it is like that for every system, unless you're lucky and the early games fall into every category of game you like. I'm just glad the up season is coming for the system and next year already has some awesome looking IPs. That and PS Mobile will shake things up along with PS Plus (I anticipate either Super Stardust Delta, Escape Plan, or Mutant Blobs Attack will be free first week of Plus support). This Fall is the time to pick up a Vita with all of those bundles and great games and maybe after that people won't have to make pro Vita threads because of a series of Vita doom threads.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

My primary problem with the 3DS is the same problem I had with the DS. Dual Screens. Shit sux and no amount of other people loving the crap out of it will change my mind. I tried it. Still hate it.

Second, the stylus play. Also sux.

Finally, the new thing. The 3D. I am not impressed and thus ultimately it is not for me. So despite the fact that I would love a new 2D zelda game like the old school LTTP or Links Awakening. I know we are never gonna get it. Instead we'd get something like NSMB2, which I think is quite possibly the worst installment I've seen in the main franchise.

Many may shout me down, but this is my opinion based on first hand experience. I just plain do not like what nintendo is doing these days even though I tried.

The core of the Vita is still the same gaming I have known for 2/3 of my life and thus it appeals to me. A single screen. Traditional controls for games that should have them. No stylus. A leap in graphics.

Yeah, the vita is failing, and may ultimately be a failure. But then when it comes right down to it, I guess id rather be playing a failure, playing the type of games I like, the way I want to play them, then I would be playing games just to keep up with everyone else.

That new neo geo x gold? That appeals to me. The 3DS? Never will.

Just get the Vita already.

It's region free.
It has the games you like.
It has Cross Platform/Play/Buy.
It is the better web browser and app device.
It is getting PS Mobile this fall.
It is getting PS Plus.
It has 250+ PSP games on the store and 100+ PSone classics.
It uses the same account you use on your PS3 for transferring games between them and collecting trophies.
It is graphically superior.
It has cross game chat.
It has great multiplayer capabilities.
It has unique combination of two touch screens with gyros, 2 camera, Augmented Reality, 2 analog sticks, and great buttons.
It has an 5" OLED screen.
It has 7(?) bundles available this year that come with a game and a memory card for the Wifi version.
It has a 3G version if that's something you are interested in.
It has a power grip by NYKO for 30 bucks that makes it feel like a dualshock and doubles battery life.
It has digital versions of every retail game available day one.
It has remote play so you can operate and play your PS3 from your Vita at home or anywhere in the world.
It has remote controller allowing for asynchronous gameplay like shown at Gamescom with LBP2 and announced for Guacemelee.

I have a tough time believing that.

Not even the PSP has that much stuff on PSN. Unless they are counting them all together + those crappy little games no one plays.
