Forums - Sales - Minecraft for XBLA reaches 3.6 million units sold

Developer Mojang continues to dominate the Xbox Live Arcade charts, announcing today that Minecraft for the Xbox 360 has sold 3.6 million copies. Mojang's business developer Daniel Kaplan revealed the latest numbers on the game on Twitter earlier today, saying he was "really surprised" to learn of Minecraft's latest milestone.

Minecraft on XBLA broke sales records when it launched, becoming profitable within an hour of its release. In July, Mojang founder (and Minecraft mastermind) Markus "Notch" Persson revealed the game had surpassed the three million unit sales mark.

On PC, the tree-punching simulator has surpassed seven million units sold. That's a lot of punching.

What a beast of a game.

I'm an advocate for motion controls, Nintendo, and Kicking freaking Toad to the Moon!

Very impressive!

Add a couple million more or so for the mobile versions as well. All of the versions are doing pretty great. Hopefully the other things they release will do just as well.

Amazing sales and well worth the port. Mojang are making serious cash off of this

Now hurry the heck up and release a big expansion for the game, theyve got millions of players eagerly waiting

I give this a big thumbs up. i just built a tower today that reaches down to bedrock... Lol took me hours.

Actually, they did just have a pretty big release not too long ago. Beginning of August or so. They added a tonne of new stuff and the ability to use LAN play in Single Player worlds on PC. The 360 one had a pretty good bug fix update this month as well.

Next one they'll be doing is adding a Mod API that is supposed to streamline modding and allow the game to be updated and bugfixed much faster than before, but I don't think that'll be for a few months yet.

Well deserved!
