I hope your not personally bashing apple. Anyway, Im in the neutral ground for apple products as I dont hate them but I dont find usage for their products either.. other than to just look good.

I just hope that the competition would heighten up with Windows 8 release, android and IOS. More competition=More innovation.

Yay!!!

I urge you to watch the whole vid, especially after 17:00, apple is holding the industry back by arguing over things like rectangles and curved edges lol.

Interesting video. But I still think Apple is genius in their business. and I'm not an apple fan boy or anything, but they clearly have mastered that technology market in hardware and software. They're great business men.

But when you combine sooo many previous unoriginal ideas into ONE idea, you can at some point claim, I think, some sense of originality in your product. A laptop having thunderbolt, magsafe adapter, aluminum unibody, intuitive IOS/OS, great trackpad, etc., etc. all in one is a unique invention.

In other words, someone can STILL use a light bulb (unoriginal idea) in a unique larger idea and have it be considered original. And in the end, lets not forget that ALL ideas are conglomerates of previous original ideas. The lightbulb is a conglomerate of ideas that were not invented by the creator of the lightbulb. But we wouldn't say the lightbulb is an unoriginal idea just because it is made up of previous ideas.

Apple is clearly way more original than many other technology companies in that sense. That being said, yeah I think it's BS that the court ruled in favor of a patent like curved fucking edges on a phone. Totally agree that vague and general patents are BS and hinder the economic market.

Not much news to be honest, but thanks for sharing this. :)

Thanks for the vid. Very interesting and very true.

Steve Wozniak is a hero of mine. I find his love of technology inspiring. While The Great and Powerful Woz is a genius inventor, Steve Jobs was a genius salesman. I've never liked salesmen.

Apple has become the very thing that they convinced everyone to hate and fear back in 1984. They told us all to Think Different. Now they just want you to think like them.

Apple has become worse than Big Blue ever was. Don't even get me started on their elitist fans.

Interesting video.

While Apple are dicks over the things they try to claim as theirs exclusively, Samsung were idiots to make devices that gave Apple the chance to throw their weight around. Android's winning the smartphone race because they cater to a much wider price range. Samsung didn't need to make such similar looking phones with such similar home screens to iPhone. If Google itself told Samsung they were flying too close to Apple in their designs they shoulda listened and made some tweaks. Or at least if it was too late to make a change for the first line of phones at least make meaningful changes for the next line.

I don't buy Apple because they charge a "coolness" premium. And I don't play that game...except for cars if I could afford a cool car, which I can't so that's just wishful thinking.

And reliability-wise my kids have owned Nano's and they've always had problems with having to be re-set because they crash. So the extra expense doesn't even buy you better reliability.

The video makes a few good points but going by their standards for "invention", almost no companies "invent" anything. If some guy built it in his garage and the device was seen by anyone, even if it was a spectacular failure, you can't "invent" a consumer version of that product. Going by their standards, Nintendo probably hasn't "invented" anything in their entire corporate history (or at least the past 30 years). It's one way of looking at the situation but it's certainly not the only way of looking at it and it heavily downplays innovation and consumer packaging, which is where Apple excels. They were the first company to market with a legitimate PDA and digital camera. Were they the "first" to ever build such devices? No, but they were the first to make something usable and consumer-focused. They weren't the first to market with a smartphone or tablet but they were the first to market with a smartphone and tablet that Joe Consumer wanted to use. While that's not technically "invention", it's still a significant step forward.
