Forums - General Discussion - Mafia Round 45: Friendship is Mafia

@Yoshiya: I mean would you be happy if everyone claimed what character they were?

If I could trust everyone to tell the truth but I know I can't. If we were to do that all the townies would tell the true as they would have no reason to lie but then the mafia would make it so they weren't in at least one of the suspect groups. The only way it would work would be for each person to truly claim at some point or for us to find out another way. However, now I have been forced to post this (although I doubt it would have happened anyway) I know that won't happen, ruining this method.

You have effectively made my suggestion pointless which suggests you either didn't want it to go through or didn't think it would work. Based on my previous suspicions I am going to say the former.

(To everyone else, I know that it was unlikely for the mafia to truly claim if they did claim anyway)

Because Dr Evil is the bad guy?

You can't tell me that this discussion we're having right now doesn't make you look at least a little suspicious - you're took the joke that I made and ran with it, hoping that you'd grab an early mislynch.

Because I believe that right now, the Mafia would gain more from finding out the characters - what I said to Noctis (as I already said in the post you quoted) was a checking-in post joke to annoy him a bit.

Same post, different bold.

You say your intentions were to annoy Noctis.

I was simply suggesting that he could be a member of the mafia (hence asking which one of them he was) - is Spurge  the only player allowed to throw around wild accusations? Not that it matters now, since joke time is long over (that was just my first post, after all). Looking a bit defensive of Noctis right about now

FoS Mantle

Here you say that you were suggesting that he could be a member of mafia and I am looking a bit defensive.

Explain then, how is it that you thought he was hinting at being mafia (which would be ridiculous) but then you say that you were trying to annoy Noctis.

It's not a contradiction- I've actually done nothing but repeat the same idea with slightly different wording to this debate every time, in the hope that you'd eventually understand what I'm trying to say. Here's how it goes:

1) Noctis posts his signing-in message; an image of Dr Evil. Dr Evil is, as his name suggests, evil, so I decided to make a joke about it.

2) That joke came in the form "Which element do you represent?" - ie. I was "suggesting that he could be Mafia" - not a serious suggestion- a jokey one, because, as you already said, it would be ridiculous to believe that Noctis would just give up on his first post and admit being mafia-aligned. I never said that I thought he was hinting at being mafia - it was my first post in the round as well as his, so I decided to make a light-hearted comment about it.

3) I say that it would "annoy" Noctis, because he'd have to respond- I was going to use his response to my joke to try to size up his tone/playstyle in this round from the outset. Not only was this situation nothing suspicious in the slightest, it was actually some subtle, early scumhunting.

For the repeated refusal to let this issue dissolve, we can already see that it's taken attention away from the actual scumhunting - which other players are trying to do, but without much success due to this ridiculous debate. I refuse to believe that you don't have some benefit to gain from completely distracting half the town, effectively making Day 1 useless. At least a couple of those trying to capitalise on the situation are more than likely going to be mafia-aligned, in my eyes.

For the repeated refusal? You have hardly put up a satisfactory defense, and you expect people to consider your statements as truth straight away?

And wth do you mean distracting half the town?

This debate is hardly ridiculous. In fact I find your answers ridiculous.

Still one of your statements at least reduces my suspicion on you, although not that much. You said your role matches your character. Either this is true, or you are sure to be claiming something that will match your fakeclaim and since repeated characters are possible, I guess it wouldn't be as risky. Then again multiple roles may not be a possiblity.

Guys quick question as i have looked everywhere and cant find out. What does "Meta" mean in this game?
Like when someone says you cant Meta what do they mean?.

Meta has to do with outside of the game proper, like it's rules.

Like us using the flavor to try to find who the mafia are, that's meta gaming. Or thinking, "In a game like this X amount of mafia makes sense, so there's X amount of mafia."

For myself, I just consider anything that's not focusing on people's posts meta gaming. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh that's quite clever- I didn't really think about the character himself (durr "Dr" evil)- I only said it as a joke

When I asked which element he represented, I was joking (remember, the elements of harmony are the players that we're trying to lynch). When I said the mafia are better of knowing who the characters are, I was being half-serious however- there is a link between my character and my role, but it's unlikely to be much use to the mafia team, to be fair.

You have now revealed yourself to the mafia as being a town with a power role. Congrats.

i think the is something up with both Radish and Mantle

All their fighting just feels like its hiding something deeper.

i dont know if im sure of one or both being mafia, but it is like they are trying to be distracting, not sure if thats the plan of one or both of them but for now

FoS Mantle

FoS Radish

The simpler and hence more likely explanation is that two quite active townies have decided to not like each other and in having a highly visible fight distracting the town from mafia that are trying to stay hidden.

I think we should lynch Noctis for lurking.

Everyone needs to stop waiting for others to make a move and start making one themselves. Vote someone, pressure them on their scum activity, get reads from people's reaction or lack of reaction to the case you're doing.

FoSing a huge bunch of people is very unhelpful because it leads to making decisions based on feelings and allowing real mafia to evade questioning if they so wish.

I picked up pezus and no one was interested in either pressing him also, defending him, doing some analysis of his replies or in fact anything. We need to create a strong town environment where mafia play /can be distinguished from/ impulsive, indecisive, lurky town play.

Honestly, I feel good about a mantle lynch day 1. I won't push it, but I won't stop a band wagon either.

I feel he's just saying what needs to be said to please the players. A lot of swings in attitude, a lot of subtle back tracking... inconsistent. I just don't feel good about him
