Developing and releasing 2 new consoles will have that effect. Sony and Microsoft have bled billions too.

microsoft just posted billions of dollars profit while developing a new xbox, and a new windows OS, sony's one of the worse run business's ever. Apple's run well, they price things at their price because they can. If nintendo or sony could get away with it they would too... or they tried (vita not selling 3DS having price drop).

Any business would. Difference is Sony/Nintendo at least make quality products most of the time.

Iphone has the highest reliability, compared to other smartphones.

If you don't like them that's fine, but that =/= quality of the product.

F*** Apple.

Not too worried about this honestly.

Samsung is makes billions of dollars, and is selling millions of phones. Certainly losing 1 billion is a lot, but they will still progress forward with the quarter.

At some point this debate will have to end, and I think it might end with specific patents becoming "fair use." Otherwise, these type of issues will keep occuring.

There's much more to product quality than reliability.

WTF are you people talking about?

Do some research and look at the phones which were sued and patents that Apple sued them with. Looking at the phones in question, Samsung "willingly" copied the Iphone and its features.

People that know me know that I don't like Apple but I hate seeing lack of common sense.

The pictured devices are different in many ways. Similar yes, copy no. You can't patent look and feel. At least that used to be the case. Now there's a precedent that gives companies the ability to crush their competition by showing a picture like what you posted.

You want to make smartphones? Make your own design, UI, and feel. I don't have a problem with that.

Also Samsung infringed on Apples '381 bounceback patent and '915 pinch to zoom patent...but that's every android phone. Maybe its time for Google to license some Microsoft and Apple patents before they offer android to OEMs? Let's see if they can do that and still keep it "free".

lol, so the wii having outdated technology (more so than the iphone) when it was brought to market, is a quality product?

Whereas an Mac isn't despite them having various software suites for music and video that are only available on mac. And having a fairly intuitive interface on their phones, and Ipods (which they bought out companys for if I remember).

I don't like either but they both have their point and target audience, and do a good job for their target audience.

Are you realling going to tell me that you feel "pinch to zoom" should have ever even gotten a pattent let alone be exclusive? What if ID software patented FPS? What if Nintendo patented side scrolling? What if Xerox patented the GUI and the mouse?

The foundation of innovation has always been taking something and making it better. Every time you do that you end up with a similar product. "Pinch to Zoom" is no more patentable than "Drag and drop" which Apple sued MS for and lost.

You can't patent look and feel, but apparently you can fool a stupid jury into thinking you can.

That's just BS. Apple copied everything from its predecessors. And they try suing for ludicrous patents. Like a patent they have for making phone numbers clickable. I'm sorry, but wasn't the idea of links present since the beginning of www if not earlier? How can apple patent something they didn't even help create? The obvious answer is that they shouldn't be able to. But alas we have the US patent office.

What apple does very well is take ideas from others, polish them, claim them as their own, and market the hell out of them. It's really ironic that Jobs was so pissed about Android. Android basically took iOS and made into something much better. Gingerbread (if not FroYo) was a more powerful operating system than iOS5.

What I really dislike about Apple is all the anal pain they're apparently suffering from Google "copying" them. What about all the stuff apple copied form Android? Like the pull-down notification bar and the ability to access the camera from the lock screen, among countless other features. I really don't see Google acting all butt-hurt for apple copying them.

What I also find really funny about these lawsuits is how Apple is always going after manufacturers instead of Google. Just shows how much of pussies they are. Or perhaps that they realize that they're wrong. Apple needs to realize that Android is here to stay, with over double the market share of iOS and much higher daily activation rates. Well over half the smartphones in the world run Android and that number is only growing. Apple has been pulling the same antics for a couple of years, and if it's not clear, nobody is getting discouraged.

It's simple really, Apple devices suck for gaming and are overpriced. I know there's more to it than gaming, but they don't do anything that justifies the high price.

And yeah, the Wii is a quality product, because you can play great games on it. It's not overpriced for what it offers.

Anybody that knows anything about Android knows that's hardly what an actual Galaxy S ever looks like, and you have to go out of your way to set it up to look like an iPhone.
