Forums - Sales - 3DS vs PSV 2012 Edition: 3DS 30m or PSV 5m? (Oct 6th: Vita > 3m!)

Which milestone will occur first: 3DS 30m or PSV 5m?

Both before Jan 5th, but 3DS first 77 16.67%

Both before Jan 5th, but PSV first 35 7.58%

3DS before Jan 5th, PSV after 179 38.74%

PSV before Jan 5th, 3DS after 59 12.77%

Both after Jan 5th, but 3DS first 83 17.97%

Both after Jan 5th, but PSV first 29 6.28%

Total:462

3DS's pace slows down a bit for the first time in three weeks. If it can stay steady for another 4 to 5 weeks, then it won't go below 200k for the rest of the year as the holiday rush will start kicking in by early to mid October.

Wow at Vita!!! Didn't expect Miku to really push it in Japan and more than double its sales globally. Weeks left are less than half of what they were last week, and for the FIRST TIME it's ahead of the 3DS pace (at least just for this week or maybe next week).

Miku got a little help from Madden in the West. Good week for Vita.

I take it the predicted # of weeks left is just the total sales remaining divided by the current week's sales? Basically assuming hypothetically that every week will have the same sales as the most recent week?

It's a one week boost with no signs of stability above 50k WW for a while...expect numbers to return in a few weeks.

Everyone did the same with Persona 4 and Gravity Rush week, where Vita sold 85k. However, the following week it was back around 50k and just kept dropping to (likely if overtracked by nearly 400-500k) 30k a week WW. Now, I expect the fall to be slower and a higher min point of 40ish k, but a heavy fall it will be, and saved it is not.

Also see Wii sales at DQX launch, they were 100k that week nearly, now look at the sales...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Forgot about Madden. Guess it did help in the west.

Regarding "Weeks Left", yeah it's pretty much that (Sales Left / Current Week Sales). Not the best indicator of the weeks left, but it shows which of the two is closest to its milestone if weekly sales continue the way they are.

Yeah, I agree... it isn't a sustainable boost. It should go 80k ---> 50k ---> 40k and then back to where it was before this week (maybe a bit higher). It just shows how badly the Vita needs games.

If you tried a 10-week average or something you'd get a more stable prediction. Or even just averaging together the recorded weeks (4 at this point).

3DS 4-week average: 234,862
3DS predicted weeks left: 42.92

Pretty consistent with previous predictions, as 3DS sales haven't fluctuated much in the past few weeks.

Vita 4-week average: 46,639
Vita predicted weeks left: 47.05

Not saying that's more accurate, but it's a bit more dramatic -- that's very close to the 3DS prediction!

EDIT: Actually, none of this accounts for holiday boosts. Vita should actually hit 5 mil in about 16 weeks, give or take a few of course, but that's where I'm placing my bets. No clue about 3DS, but I suppose I would guess around the same time.

It'll boil down to how well the Vita bundles sell to be honest. They're the equivalent of a $50+ price drop if you factor in the memory card and game you receive, the issue is whether the average consumer will know this, or care.

Good idea! Maybe I will add it next week :)
