Forums - Gaming - Is the Vita truely dead?

We all have to come into agreement to discuss this topic for any console until after it's first holiday season.

If only.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Wait until 2013 to say whether it'll be dead or not. It'll be the PSV's first ever holiday season so we gotta see how it does there. I don't have much hope for it though unless Sony gives it a price cut.

problem is, it already did...in Japan (Sony's major market) at least.  This should be PSV first holiday in many territories but not it's  not it's first since being launched.  Anyways, I still don't think Sony will hit their target sales or be anywhere near respectable sales by this holiday.(just my opinion)

lol, it is too early to give it up. Look at what happened to the PS3, back in 2006-2007 everyone was spelling its doom and today it is a very well stabilished console. Not marketleader but easily the best console for many players.

The worst part of a console cycle is its launch, where it is most expensive, has few games, is least known.

Holidays are coming, big titles are coming for the Vita, it will do just fine. If all worst comes to worst, Sony can still drop its price.

Not all is lost. It sold 8.8k units in Japan last week, this week it sold 11K. It went up without any new releases. Compare it to the Xbox 360 who sold not even 1K and you see it's not as bad as people are saying.

We are in a Holiday period for Japan "Obon". Every system saw a bump (minus the Wii and the Xbox 360) and almost every game saw a bump too. Nintendo Held the 75% oh hardware sales in Japan this week.

The classic one is

http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/10/22/the-playstation-vita-is-set-to-succeed

"For better or for worse, Vita will be pitted against the Nintendo 3DS. But the comparison doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and even if you were to pit them against each other, Vita is still destined to sell better. "

Two months before launch. People were quite optimistic about Vita. The price at E3 was a god given gift to most. Heck, everybody here expected better, by little or by much . I know I did.

The great thing about that IGN article is that you can sort the comments by "oldest" and "newest"

The contrast is really amusing!

There were lots of people (myself included) that doubted the PS-Vita could be as successful as the 3DS. In my case I thought that the 3DS struggling at $250 demonstrated that consumers did not think a dedicated handheld was worth $250. I don't think anyone expected it to do this poorly though ...

So what do people think its sales should be at the end of the year for it to be "saved."

That was launch, not a year, in only one region without an extensive list of appealing games for Japan. Give the Vita, or any console, a year and one holiday season before calling it "dead". Case in point.

But I do agree that Sony won't meet it's target shipments.
