my ps3 doesn't lag on HDTVs

Around the Network

There is lag on HDTV depending on the settings. My son notice the lag (delay) while playing Guitar Heroes 3 (ps2) as the timing was wrong. The lag is not there in Game mode which makes me wonder if the lag is coming from the HDTV "upscaling". (PS2 as well as Wii would be upscaled). My HDTV upscaling is just as good if not better than PS3 upscaling which helps DVD look better.

Also note that upscaling a SD game on HDTV will make jagged edges more noticeable, kind of the opposide effect of anti-aliasing.

 Bingo.

The lag was entirely caused by the scalars. Response time in MS has absolutely nothing to do with game lag. Respsone time is measreument of how fast the panel can go from all white to all black.  A better response timer means less ghosting. Newer TV's (last few years) are all digital so they have much better scalars so there should be no problem with any brand name bought this year.

A 4ms panel with a crappy scalar will lag. A 20ms response time with a good scalar will not lag.

Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'

I am using a 32" Samsung LCD and Wii looks great on it, no Lag. Using component cables just for you to know.

Using a 47" Samsung LCD and HOLY SHIT!!! Mario Galaxy looks like the Xbox 360 games (ports from PS2 and XBOX) from 2006!

Anyone know if the samsung tv'll look good with the wii? I was thinking that the scaler might be of good quality, and it might also look nice with a computer im planning to hook up.

not sure - it gets very good scores on most sites and supports 480p (sounds only 6 Watts so get yourself new sound system) but I cannot find any reference to the gaming mode that i've been looking for on Samsungs so it's difficult to say.

I wonder what's the difference between LE32R88BD and LE32R87BDX. Anyone knows ?

not a great deal, from that site I gave you the link to "The Samsung LE32R88BD is an EXCLUSIVE version of the Samsung market model LE32R87BDX. The key difference is the dark blue strip above the table top stand." I cant even see that strip they're talking about so, dixons told me it's basically just the new model number as they've now discontinued the LE32R87BDX and this has replaced it with the same RRP.

In a nutshell - it's the same TV

I believe the lag issue with consoles was only with DLP TV's so if you get an LCD or Plasma you'll be fine. On the other hand you really shouldnt waste money on a HDTV if its for the Wii, it'll just make you realize how crappy the hames look.

What you need is a HDTV with a low response time, ideally you want something with less than 8... maybe even 6ms response time as a maximum.

I don't actually own a HDTV so I couldn't say for sure, but using the same logic for TFT/LCD monitors should see you fine with HDTV's as well. I have a 19" widescreen monitor with a 5ms response time and I've had absolutely zero problems with any games on this. The effect of lag that you mention is called Ghosting.

It won't actually be much of a problem at all, the only occasions where it could be is with rhythm games such as Guitar Hero, but even then they offer calibration methods to make up for screen lag given by HDTV's.

Again though, look for a screen with a low response time and you should be absolutely fine.

Wii runs games at 30Fps dont it? Any tv with a response time under 25ms is fine (although anything above 16 is usually un heard of for HDTVs) As I said its not really the specs of the TV but the type, so avoid DLP
