Forums - Gaming - 360 & PS3 have 'passed their use-by date' - DayZ creator

Well i agree that this gen has come too far and pcs have been evolving and games like Minecraft prove that. F2P is he future of Pc Gaming but not Console Gaming.

Oh god another """""Indie""""" celebrity whose every word will be written up as a new article and spread to every message board.

Making one game that people like doesn't mean your opinions are important. Any article that starts "XXXXX creator blah blah" I'll just skip over from now on.

That's how it works everywhere. Like in the pony fandom

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

F2P is the future for PC not console.

Ubisoft can't make money sell games on online they tried but Pc gamers pirated there games causing in 2011 a 90 percent lost in Pc sales.

Sega barely made anything from Pc sales.

The only ones the make huge profit from Pc gaming is activision with blizzard.

You have those rare games that get popular but most don't.

Plus look at XBL or PSN look at those indy games that are creative. Look at Wiiware lot's of people have made lot's of money there too and are being very creative.

PC gaming is great but it's a different market everyone who actually knows marketing like EA/Ubisoft/Nintendo/Mircosoft/Actvision know this.

This guy seems to just be making an argument from a business standpoint not an objective one.

"Ubisoft... 90% loss? Where did you get that? Ubisoft butchers their PC releases themselves. I wonder, since they can't make money selling games online, why they just recently started their own online gaming client (similar to steam)."

They are starting one because you can still make money LOL. Hell origin has games that are on ps3/xbox36/wii that you can buy for your console. Online system /=/ only for PC. You need to relaize that everything online is for only PC gamers by these companies. Ubisoft already is working getting a there system to be a online shop on consoles and for there site for PC gamers. Origin is going to be doing the same as they being hitting at it. For the Origin one please ignore the rumors with the Wii-U and Origin because they sounds like some bs drama some sites did to gain viewers. These are companies not children. Sorry for going off-topic there :P.

"Sega barely made anything from PC sales? Did they even release PC games recently? Did you miss the part where they will be focusing on 4 franchises from now on, with 2 of those being PC exclusive?"

"Make no mistake," said SEGA this week, "if one quarter of the people that usually pirate [Football Manager] switch to purchasing Football Manager 2012, the sales of the game worldwide would more than double." That was the eye-opening statistic used to justify Football Manager 2012 requiring Steam to play. In other words, more than 80 per cent of people playing Football Manager are doing so with a pirated copy.

Oh really just because no exclusive? So, what you admit they don't buy multiplates?

"At the higher end you can see 90 per cent illegitimate usage to 10 per cent legitimate," Svensson says. And they're not, what he calls "victimless crimes". He says Capcom had support calls from people playing pirated copies of the game. "There's a dollar cost to that. They're not even aware of what they're asking being wrong," he shrugs, "they're not aware it's theft. It's a cultural issue. And you'll find that the sensitivity to it or against it really varies a lot, a lot, from country to country."  ~ Svensson talking about the free-be-gamers.

"What about EA?"

You mean the Battlefield Premium that EA said boosted the the sales for PC for EA? Hmm what happen to that HARDCORE PC exlusive  Old Republic... oh wait that failed and became a free to play game...... then EA made a statement  about what... oh yea that we learned that the future for big titles for PC(only) are going planned to be free-to-play.

Oh the irony is life?

just a quick fact in Q4 (2011)in North America PC sales were down 5.9  but nobody was saying how PC gaming was dying about the whole year for PC gaming in 2011 being not so good with all the  sales going down....until WoW came out....

"Activision is not the only one"

BEst Selling PC game ever Diablo 3 before it Wow before it another Activision game than before I believe it was either Wow again or Diablo 2.

Activision holds the most of the PC gaming Industry. PC industries rarely get big because of activision controll on the industry. Not to say some get through but if you compared them to actvision they look like a joke. I will get chart on here someday witht he numbers.

"You have those rare games that get popular but most don't"

This was pointing out that aleast with the big 3 you have a better chance of getting big compared to just being by yourself on the internet. Look at how many people(indy) go on XBL/PSN because they were making nothing basically and need the exposure.

"business standpoint the only way to be objective?"

He is basing it on a personal experience not the data or facts.

To sum this up Pc and Console gaming goes up and down depending on factors.

Consoles: 1-4(best years) will always profit. Look at all the previous generations towards it's end sales decline and hardware.

PC gaming: Bizzard Games. Random game gets popular.

These factors determine if sales will go up or down.

People have been saying this for years people who study the market.

EA has stated this next gen for PC is going to be the free-to-play.

Ubisoft same thing.

Consoles for Microsoft and Sony need to change or they will decline but this will not affect the PC market because there not the same market.
Like EA and every serious company has stated.
People just like the idea or PC vs Console when actually there isn't any.

"What I saw was a PC-only client. Origin is a PC-only client but their store online is for console games as well."

There going to expand it like I said but right now you can buy console games too, it's not PC only just at the moment it basically is. That just because Nintendo/Mircosoft/Sony haven't upgraded yet that's when they will expand on the platform. It's just smart business and they stated they will probably expand to platforms.

"Bad logic. FM sells in the millions each year."

What is FM because I know two PC games with a F and M.

"No, all 4 of the franchises are available on PC, 2 of them exclusive."

Doesn't change the point.

"They're not aware it's theft". Of course not, since it isn't in most countries."

The point is there is a lot of priacy and they can't do anything because there isn't anything they can do. Which is what he was basically saying kinda like Meh reaction.

"Yes, they realize free-to-play is where the big money happens. Just look at League of Legends."

LOOK WHAT I BEEN WRITTING I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS. PC will stop doing buying games and just be free-to-play. No argument here from me.

Ubisoft: PC has Piracy Rate of 93-95%, F2P the Future

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/22/ubisoft-pc-has-piracy-rate-of-93-95-f2p-the-future

It's coming.

"Best selling console game ever: Black Ops, before it MW2 etc"

Actually just for Sony and Mircosoft.

Nintendo: Wii Sports(bundle), Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros wii, etc.

If we are doing stand alones Nintendo wins. Of course in total from all games Nintendo can't fight that ecause it comes out every year lol. But if we take one game at a time Nintendo isn't effected. Nintendo actvision also doesn't controll nintendo own market. Therefor it isn't taking over the market like the PC. That's the great thing with 3 companies verse one system.

"Why did so many companies have to close then?"

Some sucked some didn't just work. Never said 100 percent successful rate that's not possible but a good number comapared to PC do good.

"It's not random. It's about quality and uniqueness."

By random I mean some person you never heard of getting popular. I'm not down-playing there work but random I mean stranger.

My argument was it was not Console sales that are doing bad only it's also PC games. Free-to-play is showing this more and more.

Again this is not me hating on PC just saying both are not doing good. Because of factors that determine there markets.

Damn right they have. We'd better see a new Xbox next year, 8 years is WAY too long already...
