"Ubisoft... 90% loss? Where did you get that? Ubisoft butchers their PC releases themselves. I wonder, since they can't make money selling games online, why they just recently started their own online gaming client (similar to steam)."
They are starting one because you can still make money LOL. Hell origin has games that are on ps3/xbox36/wii that you can buy for your console. Online system /=/ only for PC. You need to relaize that everything online is for only PC gamers by these companies. Ubisoft already is working getting a there system to be a online shop on consoles and for there site for PC gamers. Origin is going to be doing the same as they being hitting at it. For the Origin one please ignore the rumors with the Wii-U and Origin because they sounds like some bs drama some sites did to gain viewers. These are companies not children. Sorry for going off-topic there :P.
"Sega barely made anything from PC sales? Did they even release PC games recently? Did you miss the part where they will be focusing on 4 franchises from now on, with 2 of those being PC exclusive?"
"Make no mistake," said SEGA this week, "if one quarter of the people that usually pirate [Football Manager] switch to purchasing Football Manager 2012, the sales of the game worldwide would more than double." That was the eye-opening statistic used to justify Football Manager 2012 requiring Steam to play. In other words, more than 80 per cent of people playing Football Manager are doing so with a pirated copy.
Oh really just because no exclusive? So, what you admit they don't buy multiplates?
"At the higher end you can see 90 per cent illegitimate usage to 10 per cent legitimate," Svensson says. And they're not, what he calls "victimless crimes". He says Capcom had support calls from people playing pirated copies of the game. "There's a dollar cost to that. They're not even aware of what they're asking being wrong," he shrugs, "they're not aware it's theft. It's a cultural issue. And you'll find that the sensitivity to it or against it really varies a lot, a lot, from country to country." ~ Svensson talking about the free-be-gamers.
"What about EA?"
You mean the Battlefield Premium that EA said boosted the the sales for PC for EA? Hmm what happen to that HARDCORE PC exlusive Old Republic... oh wait that failed and became a free to play game...... then EA made a statement about what... oh yea that we learned that the future for big titles for PC(only) are going planned to be free-to-play.
Oh the irony is life?
just a quick fact in Q4 (2011)in North America PC sales were down 5.9 but nobody was saying how PC gaming was dying about the whole year for PC gaming in 2011 being not so good with all the sales going down....until WoW came out....
"Activision is not the only one"
BEst Selling PC game ever Diablo 3 before it Wow before it another Activision game than before I believe it was either Wow again or Diablo 2.
Activision holds the most of the PC gaming Industry. PC industries rarely get big because of activision controll on the industry. Not to say some get through but if you compared them to actvision they look like a joke. I will get chart on here someday witht he numbers.
"You have those rare games that get popular but most don't"
This was pointing out that aleast with the big 3 you have a better chance of getting big compared to just being by yourself on the internet. Look at how many people(indy) go on XBL/PSN because they were making nothing basically and need the exposure.
"business standpoint the only way to be objective?"
He is basing it on a personal experience not the data or facts.
To sum this up Pc and Console gaming goes up and down depending on factors.
Consoles: 1-4(best years) will always profit. Look at all the previous generations towards it's end sales decline and hardware.
PC gaming: Bizzard Games. Random game gets popular.
These factors determine if sales will go up or down.
People have been saying this for years people who study the market.
EA has stated this next gen for PC is going to be the free-to-play.
Ubisoft same thing.
