It establishes the official timeline, yes. It's all laid out in front of us. It's actually kind of dark in a few ways.

Well it'd have to be what with some of the crap that happens in some of the Zelda games and the vast rearranging of some stuff. So there's an official timeline now. Huh...

Most Multiple Timeline Theories got it wrong. Turns out there were three timelines at the end of OoT.
The child timeline, the Adult timeline...
And the failed timeline, where Link dies in combat with Ganon

Yeah, i just looked up a timeline chart.
Intresting stuff.
It's funny to think the first game is near the end of one of the timelines... and just wonder what that world is like in cannon. Are things really so declined that everyone lives in caves and places with secret exits. (I'm going to assume everyone ISN'T 50+ though.)
