Forums - Sales - Global Hardware Up! Week Ending Aug. 11, USA + UK software! - Kingdom Hearts lives on!

That's an interesting 'boost' for the 360 there, and a terrible drop for the PSV. 35k, can't remember any console dropping to those figures in its life, let alone in its first year (note that the PSP and the DS are now dead).

Even supporters must be worried.

PSV in bad shape, but sensibly Sony won't take conclusions in a dead period when its competitor is overkilling anything else with a very important HW launch and many big SW one

Haven't had this degree of "damage control" feeling from someone's post for a while.

You don't even need to compare the DS to the PSV. That just makes it look worse, but it looks abysmal just as well on it's own.

Damage control? The two statements are totally unrelated, I even made them separated paragraphs.
Read them better, I just compared DS with itself combined with 3DS and nothing else: it's quite evident that a stronger DS could still fill a void that neither PSP nor PSV are filling, whatever their strength or weakness, they just can't cater for Nintendo potential audience, because that audience strongly wants some Ninty exclusives.
I mentioned PSV separately just stating that although it's in a bad shape, any decision rushed now, with 3DS at its best both on the HW and SW front, wouldn't be sensible, as a correct strategy will have to take in account 3DS momentum, not just the strongest boosts.
But nowhere I compared them. Why so insecure?

Wtf? Xbox360 numbers suddenly jump back up by 0.1 M - this happens EVERY time PS3 closes the gap.

This site is BULLSHIT.

So X360 adjusted up and the gap back to 2m...

It annoys me a lot that Sony won't disclose PS3 numbers separately from PS2, because now it's anyone's guess how much it's selling and it's hard to compare shipments/sales. The best numbers available are VGC's, but have been adjusted after fiscal reports numerous times.

And BTW, those SW sales are pitiful. Not (only) because the gen is ending, but this year has been pretty shit when it comes to new releases, I'd say the worst of the gen by far. At least the end of the year is pretty full of strong releases.

It looks like people already stopped buying the new Nintendo console, 3DSXL.

Not really. Its selling fine in japan and europe. If you notice the Vita isnt doing much better either.

It just seems like the portable market really is dying in the US. Its troubling news.

This is actually another reason why Sony should slash the price point of the Vita, because the market is just going away like this.

Very well written but your first post didn't imply this to me. Not insecure at all, it's just you said Sony won't take conclusions during a busy period for the DS, which I would say is drawing a comparison and makes it sound like Sony doesn't need to take action - or possibly won't when the DS starts loosing momentum. You're right though, doing a price cut now would be a very bad idea. That's the case for any console imo at this time of year. May-Aug worst possible time to cut a price and always has been. Late Sep-Oct would be a very good time, and if things haven't improved all but inevitable. Guess we all know that though so I'll shurrup.

They seem to still be making games and bringing big games to it. So they cannot be too worried. Anyone know how digital sales are doing yet?

Games usually have a 2-3 years development cycle. If there is a drought of Vita games in 1-2 years time, you know one of the main reasons.
