Forums - Nintendo - The New Miyamoto

Well, it is pretty well-known that Miyamoto himself is aware of this and is training future game designers/developers.

Even if he teaches people how he works, I doubt it will fully work. It's something about the man that is magical, not the way he approaches work. There may be big, successful producers stepping in but they will be different.
I wonder if he has planned a goodbye-game which will rock the world.

Miyamoto has left an impact on Nintendo that will carry on through the company.

Sometimes I ask this question myself...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Miyamoto is great, but really he wasn't that involved with games like Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2 which were developed outside of the main EAD group in Tokyo. In fact, Miyamoto was initially against ideas like the orchestral soundtrack in SMG, thankfully EAD Tokyo got their way.

Kid Icarus Uprising is the best game on the 3DS too and his involvement with that was little/null. The Galaxy games are the best games on the Wii.

Nintendo's greatness is not tied to one designer, they have many, many designers that are incredible that simply aren't as publicly known.

I would say the best Nintendo games of the last 4-5 years are Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Xenoblade, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Donkey Kong Country Returns ... and Miyamoto wasn't hugely involved in any of those.

Nintendo is not one man. It's a development culture. Look at the level design for NSMB2 ... it was made by a younger "B-team" quickly assembled and developed in about 9 months time, given a "Mario crash course" in design. And the level design seems spot on to previous Marios. So clearly Nintendo is very good at grooming young talent.

I'm sure Miyamoto will still be developing games well into the triple figures, I am interested to see that new IP he is apparently working on. Nintendo havn't had a new IP (Correct me if I'm wrong) since 2001 (Pikmin) and it would be exciting to see something new.

you are incorrect. they have made wii sports, wii fit, wii play amongst other titles. but people seem to forget them :p

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Nintendo is grooming the talent internally but I haven't seen anyone of Miyamoto caliber in any of the Iwata Asks. That being said, the Zelda and Mario games are already in very good hands other than Miyamoto for multiple console generations at this point.

If Nintendo really wants another golden age of new IPs, then they are going to have to look outside because everything within Nintendo is tainted by Miyamoto's imprint and influence.

IMHO, Nintendo should go after top talent out of Ubisoft such as Michel Ancel or perhaps reacquire some lost talent like Dylan Cuthbert and others that went out and had a chance to evolve independently for a while.

I would hate for anything to disrupt the great things happening at Naughty Dog, Valve, Irrational Games, or a handful of other such development studios, but Nintendo would benefit to take some key talent out of those places as well.

I laughed.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are a new IP.
