Face it; we're all conceited to an extent, and/or even selfish as we really all should be in most cases. I know I am. I love myself.
To many, this will apply for the Wii U's asymmetric gameplay. This will be a nail in the coffin for Nintendo or somehow explode into the next big thing; still questionable, btw.
When they hit the panic button by cutting the 3DS price due to dwindling sales, which can also be attributed to little solid lineup of softwares that resulted in arguably rushed game(s), focus was heavily shifted on the 3DS.
They cannot afford two failing consoles, should Wii U underachieve. Fortunately for them, 3DS is doing well now.
Now with asymmetric gameplay -
Most everybody will want to play the gamepad due to its Godlike controls over anyone else. It will show different reward for the players, good and bad experiences. Unfortunately, people focus and gravitate towards negativity therefore most will plead and see the unfairness it brings; this will be even truer if the player, may it be a family member or a friend, who mans the gamepad is horrible. While I see the initial fun it can bring, I just fail to see any long lasting effect or most importantly the cohesive element the Wii brought in uniting both the casuals and ‘core’ gamers.
Furthermore, though the market has expanded but it has in uncharted waters – the casuals. Really, the entertainment industry in technological standpoint as a whole has also. There are simply too many choices to choose from nowadays; consumers in turn have much shorter attention span. I seriously doubt Wii U will make that much of an impact in the industry.
