A console gaming crash is more likely to happen if they wait much longer before releasing next gen consoles. Current gen console game sales are dropping as interest wanes in products/consoles that have been out for 7+ years. New models and accessories like Kinect will only be able to keep interest going for a short period.

1983 -> 1986 we get SMB. Crash sounds good to me, would force everyone to make good games or die. The truly solid companies (Blizzard and...?) would survive.
