Square Enix earnings report for the first quarter reveals a net loss of 2,077 million yen. The company put the blame on poor console game sales.

Total sales for the three month period through June 2012 reached 24,914 million yen, level with last year's 24,529 million yen. The company posted an operating loss of 1,163 million yen, compared to last year's operating gain of 2,178 million yen. Last year, the company saw a net profit of 690 million yen.

The company's digital entertainment business, which includes video game operations, saw sales of 11,336 million yen, down 3.9% from the previous year, and an operating loss of 111 million yen. Last year, this division saw an operating gain of 2,834 million yen.

While sales of Dragon Quest Monsters Terry's Wonderland 3D on 3DS were strong, console game sales were weak. Final Fantasy Brigade on Mobage and Sengoku IXA for browsers posted favorable results.

What games did they release on the consoles last quarter?

I guess DQX can't come soon enough for S-E. I just hope they use the profits from it to make the games I really want, like a Seiken Densetsu 3 remake, a third Chrono game or TWEWY 2; hell, even speeding up VSXIII development would be nice

Heck.. I'm still waiting for the FFX HD edition... you know.. the one which was for the tenth anniversary of FFX (2001)...

Which will likely be finished when it's the 15th anniversary going by SE work speed.....

No way! How is that possible seeing how they keep making games that people want ?

Maybe they are bleeding money from making Versus.

Luminous engine? Next gen development?

Anyway, $25m doesn't sound like much for a company like SE, but maybe Sony losses have made me numb to these kinds of sums.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

The 300 people plus outsourcing for FF XIV is a big part of that. Setting up servers for DQX must have cost a bundle as well.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Good that they go for more and more MMOs, as that is clearly what people want, as seen in DQX sales.

Well, how could there be strong console game sales when there were no new big releases...
