In a sense, there is some disconnect, but I also feel they have tried and jumped through every hoop to please and communicate with fans. Look at FF14. Never before have I seen a large company rescind fees that the player agreed to, because the experience wasn't what they hoped.
Fast forward to now, they've taken player feedback and are essentially re-launching the game. That's clearly a company who cares about their fans.

But that's the thing, nobody cares about XIV, if they did the game probably would have sold well regardless of its atrocious launch. to make matters worse, they actually pooled their resources from other teams to 'fix' final fantasy XIV in spite of the fact it's already ruined. Even if they make it the best MMO ever, that doesn't change the fact that they're taking resources from other, more popular ideas (vsXIII, Kingdom Hearts 3, FFXV) or completely ignoring projects that fans are BEGGING for (FFVII remake, The World Ends with you 2) in spite of how relatively cheap they'd be to produce compared to the inevitable sales.
They're entirely disconnected. It's almost like they're actively avoiding all the things the fans want in lieu of whatever bullshit scheme they're concocting. "Oh, the fans want a remake of FFVII?" "Meh, they don't know what they want, let's pump out another sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, you know, that game that got the lowest scores of the franchise and has garnered all sorts of hate and only a few white knights."

You're implying far too much and it really shows that you do not know how Square is structured. FF14's team has nothing to do with the KH team, the main FF team, etc. They're a separate group devoted to the two MMOs. I suppose resources in terms of literal cash, but it's not like it's chewing up all their cash.
Vs13 is held up for a myriad of reasons, and none of them being FF14, so I'm not sure the correlation. KH3 is being held up by Vs13, but they've still managed to make a dozen meh spinoffs. We'll just disagree on TWEWY as I think it's most overrated JRPG this generation, without question (although, Skyrim and Fallout 3 certainly comes close)
I do it very funny that you think a FF7 remake would be cheap and easy to do. I don't see how it could ever be cheaper than any of the previous projects. It would be a massive undertaking as they would only remake it if the remake was perfect. So rather than potentially disappoint fans (which will happen as FF7 is mostly popular solely due to nostalgia) they can re-release the PC version with HD resolution. That is the only inexpensive way for that game to be seen in a new capacity.
