I'm glad that you want to find out more about the right way of life. Personally I was born a muslim, but I always wanted to understand my faith truly myself and not just accept my parent's faith blindly. So I read the Quran completely and much of the reasons, etc behind its rulings, and I'm proud to say I'm muslim. Recently I've been reading more about the Christian and Jewish theologies as well to get a good comparison between the religions.
I'll say a few things from an Islamic perspective to argue the case of Islam. People tend to say why accept one religion and not the others? But Islam is the only religion where you accept all the prophets from the other Abrahamic religions; if you don't you are not Muslim. For example, Jews consider Moses (PBUH) as their prophet, and in Islam Moses is considered one of the greatest prophets of God. In fact the most talked about individual in the Quran is Moses, even though the Quran was sent through prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Similarly we also accept and love Jesus Christ (PBUH) and his mother Mary. He is also considered another of the five main prophets in Islam; it's just we don't attach divinity to him like Christians do, the reasons of which requires a bit more explanation. There is an entire chapter in the Quran named after Mary which explains the story of Jesus Christ's birth and the trials and tribulations his mother faced.
A lot of people tend to believe that Islam started with Muhammad, but Islam explains that throughout the ages whatever prophet was sent, they all preached the same simple message of there is one god, worship him only. And that is the one core belief in Islam that makes one a muslim.
Either way, I hope you will take your time in reading more about Islam (if possible through the Quran). People tend to say religion has no place for intellect, but I'm a student of Physics myself and using your logic is one of the key ways of understanding a religion properly. Just go in with an open mind and learn it from its source. Personally I believe the Islamic message is clear, concise, easy to understand, takes the best from the other religions and makes them even better, and I hope you will find the same. If you want to learn more about Islam in a simple way though, I would suggest you watch "The Deen Show" which is geared towards explaining the core tenets of Islam to ones not familiar with it. Finally, God knows best :)
