I'm sure it'll pick up steam in Japan and Europe once it gets a price drop and some big titles come out, but here in America this thing never had a chance. It'll be on death's door by the time all three next-gen home consoles are out, mark my words.

how about  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PaHcZUHI00

U mad, bro?

5 months after launch and it hasn't even broken 1 million units in the Americas yet (or any other region for that matter), and it's being outsold by the Wii and original DS on a weekly basis.  Simple fact is that in America (specifically the US) the Sony brand isn't as strong as it used to be, the PSP is deader than dead, and everyone tends to associate the Vita with the PSP, so they avoid it like the plague.

if it's any consolation, I was looking for the Rock saying "how about a tall glass of shut the hell up", more comedic, less angry.

And dude, are you completely trying to ignore facts?  the PS3 had a similarly dismal launch and yet look where that ended up.  Likely end up over 90 million units by the time it's all said and done.  not to mention the first few years of the PS3's lifetime were cannibalized by the established and remarkably successful PS2.  Even IF the PSP was outselling the Vita, it's not unheard of.  Same thing happened in the formative months of the DS..but again, you failed to do your research becuase the Vita has been the second best selling handheld for a few months now (granted, it's not doing MUCH better than the PSP on a worldwide scale, but that's not the point, the point is that you're wrong.)

And if you're talking just the US, well, don't be so arrogant, the US and Canada aren't all that matter.

Well I was specifially talking about America in my OP when I said the PS Vita would be on death's door by the time next gen is completley underway, not WW, where I said it would definitely get a boost in Japan and Europe with a price drop and some big release.  The reason I did that was to illustrate the point that while Vita is far from dead around the world, it's got a much bigger mountain to climb in North America for the reasons mentioned above.  And if it continues struggling in the biggest market in the world, that could give many western developers pause about supporting it, especially once the next generation of consoles kicks into high gear and they start focusing all of their resources to those platforms.

And you can't compare the Vita to the PS3.  PS3 succeeded the most successful home console ever, but launched at a ridiculously high pricepoint and had hardly any big releases for the first year of its life, which caused it to lose all momentum it had going into this generation.  It took three years for it to start picking up steam... that was with the release of the Slim model and price cut to $299.  I've no doubt that PSVita will sell well once it hits like $150 or so and can compete with the 3DS in price... but when will that be?  3 years from now?  Longer?

Things like crossplay for a select few titles aren't going to do much to boost sales over the long run.  It needs to target the handheld gaming market's biggest consumers... the under 13 crowd.  This is why Nintendo always runs away with the handheld market every generation, and neither SEGA before, nor Sony now have seemed to figure that out yet, always opting for more powerful, flashier hardware than what Nintendo has, with the same results every time.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Another game in a declining franchise (LittleBigPlanet) in which the last installed sold about half the previous one.

Actually, sales were up about 500k from the LittleBigPlanet game that came out before it.  Which brings me to my point.  The game should be seen as following on from the PSP LBP rather than the console versions.

Also, would you say the 3D Mario franchise was in decline because Mario Galaxy 2 sold noticably less than the first game?  Because that's almost exactly the same situation - numbered sequel which is similar but different to the first game.  I wouldn't say Mario was on the decline, anyway.

vita has poor overall sales compared to 3DS, but a very strong following...

would you rather have 10 million people buy that purchase 3 games during the entire lifetime of the device or would you rather have 1 million people buy that purchase 50 games for the lifetime of the device?

sales are not everything for devices that are game centric. although this site promotes that... sales to core gamers that buy many more games then casuals are important.

Your comparison might be correct if there was data that supported your claim that the vita had a higher software attachment rate but in reality...it doesn't...

You cant track digital sales, which this device is clearly aimed at.  I have purchased 8 actual vita games, only one is physical media (umvc3)  the rest (Gravity rush, MGS hd, MK, D3, Rayman, U:GA, and wipeout) were all digital purchases for me.  Sony stated they were very pleased with digital sales as well.

i am pretty sure sony can track their own digital sales toa psn account just like nintendo will be able to do with 3ds digital sales.

in any case you still haven't really answered the question. the only way we will know what the attach rate is once we get some official data.

For one I got i think 13 3ds games myself. None on vita yet as waiting for a price cut to come to Australia.

Vita ona tech levelisimpressive and has an excellent chance of winning the west with the game annoucements so far, but it will take time to catch up in sales to 3ds. Nintendo will need to step it up with western style game support to cater to more people if it is to maintain the lead. One missed opportunity was pokemon. They released two black/white and conquest on DS. Now they need to wait a while for people to get sick of those games before releasing pokemon 3ds. Pokemon has always been a hardware seller for them and no was the time to bring it. next two years will be interesting in the west for handheld gaming to see how it all pans out.

Personally I feel the vita is almost dead in Japan since its lots MH and the 3ds line up isamazing there.

Im pretty sure I said that Sony is fairly pleased with vita digital sales, meaning they would have to know how many have sold.  I guess i didnt specify enough, there is no way for we the people to know exactly how many digital copies of games were sold, of course Sony can track their own sales they just refuse to make them public... And which 3ds games did you purchase exactly?  I also think its incredible that the vita has been out for less than a year and its being declared "dead" in any region, wait until their game heaven event and tgs.

Look at your entire list, then take out all the games that you will be able to play if you already have a PS3

What are you left with?

That is why people say it doesn't have enough content... the on-the-go argument is not enough to justify a $250 hardware cost to have access to games you could get and play on your PS3. The PSV that have sold, have mostly sold to people that already own a PS3 - this according to Sony.

Yep Vita is as good as dead, and lol at all the PS3 comparisons.

Well I would prefer the games we have had in the first 6 months than a single game which was a remake :)

@exile I wonder why they sell like crap.
