Forums - Sony - Vita dead? Its just waking up

Vita will be the best handheld ever

Yeah 117 40.77%

It has great games, but u... 170 59.23%

Total:287

Even with better games in the fall, I think the Vita is screwed.

The "hip teenager" Sony demographic wants for the Vita in the West is going to be cannibalized by the launch of the iPhone 5 and iPad mini and even the 3DS XL and Wii U (quasi-portable around the home). Though actually I think Apple is a bigger crimp in Sony's ambitions.

I just don't see this product being on the top of very many shopping lists, and once people have blown all their electronic gadget spending budget somewhere else ... that's the problem.

It's a vicious competetive climate out there. Also to both Nintendo and Sony -- $40 handheld games is never going to fly. Nintendo can sort of get away with it because of the power of their core franchises, but Sony is not in that same boat.

As far as discussing Vita's prospects to the market this fall, sure it does. Unless we live in some hypothetical world in which Vita is the only portable entertainment device available.

I think I'm going to adopt a new policy:  Ignore everyone who doesn't have an avatar.  It tends to be that people who haven't been here long or aren't planning on staying usually have  no idea what they're talking about; it's like they JUST broke into game discussion on here.  I just don't care for people who are quick to declare something doomed so early in its lifestyle, the two closest parallels to the Vita are the PS3 and 3DS, both had rocky starts, both turned it around, there's no reason to believe this won't too.

you know, aside from all the fantastic looking games coming out for it. not to mention the fact it not only has unique features that give it some awesome exclusives, but it also can do ports of console games.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

Monster Hunter is a killer App, Uncharted isn't, Uncharted was exactly what people feared and that is an downgraded console experience. Vita will wake up when sony find how to attract people who would like to play downgraded console experiences.

Monster Hunter started out on PS2 and got popular on the PSP, so if anything is a downgraded console experience it would be Monster Hunter. Your post doesn't make much sense. You're talking about MH being a killer app, and then talking about UC being a console experience. You probably meant to say: UC is not a big franchise like MH, instead of talking what kinda experience it offers.

No the PSP was an better device for MH and was an superior experience because it was on a handheld. It is pretty clear that people prefered it to play the franchise on a handheld while people prefered to play the Uncharted games on their consoles...

Lol no. Its a console like experience on a handheld, just like Uncharted is a console like experience. It just so happened MH got popular on PSP while it started off on PS2.

I freakind LOVE my Vita and its got plenty of games coming up Im excited about

But lets be honest here the Vita is in huge trouble both in hardware and software sales

Still most want the next MH on a handheld while I still have to find someone who would prefer that the next Uncharted game will be on Vita rather than on PS3.
