I'll end with this statement because arguing with liberals on a video game forum is useless.

You may never need a gun (and hopefully you don't), but when you need one, you need it BADLY

And you may never stare down a barrel and think, "I wish that person didn't have a gun," but if you ever do, you will wish it BADLY.

What does that have to do with anything? Explain please.

What ifs tend to be rather slippery. Organized crime tends to be fairly benign about gun violence, unless they're waging a war of their own like in Mexico currently, their victims tend to be one another, or police or such. It's not like street gangs, who would be less able on the matters of acquisition, but more likely to use the guns in petty disputes. While it would not be perfect, I would say it would be preferable to the status quo.

They can be. But that doesn't make it less true that there is a chance of it happening.

I disagree; I do not think that it would be better to ban guns. I have not seen evidence compelling enough to convince me that it is better to ban them, because I don't see massive spikes in crime where guns are allowed. And to me, it makes sense that I don't see that, because the vast majority of people who buy a gun are not doing it to kill someone. They do it for protection, or for sport (shooting ranges/hunting).

I'm a conservative, but - and maybe it's because I'm from the UK - I want increased gun presense in the police force, but absolutely no guns allowed in the regular civilian population.

It's not about reducing crime, it's about reducing death from crime or death from people trying to prevent crime (or who think they're trying to prevent crime, a la Treyvon Martin). If you get hit over the head with a baseball bat in a mugging, that's a tragedy, but you're much less likely to die than if someone shoots you in the head. And if you have to mace or tase or otherwise disable someone who is attacking you, at least you haven't killed them.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Guns just don't belong in the hands of civilians. I mean, what's the point? Self defense? Yeah, right. All a gun does is make shit worse.

question for you. Hypothetical. Say someone breaks into your residence or attacks you on the street and comes at you with a knife. Would you rather have a gun or a knife to defend your life?

More Gun control is just what it is, more government control. It gives government more control over how you live your life and choose to protect yourself. If you like more government control in your life thats fine, but I like having the freedom to protect myself and my family with a gun.

A criminal is breaking the law.  You really think he cares that it is illegal to own a gun?  They will own one regardless of the law.

True, however if guns are outlawed, then it will be much more difficult to obtain guns. And it will prevent people from commuting burglary/robbery because they acted on impulse and just so happened to have a gun on them. There would still he gun attacks, yes, but they will be a lot less prevalent. For the most part, with guns present in a confrontation, people will die. People shouldn't be dying at all.

If no civilians have guns, then nobody gets shot.

If someone breaks into your house with a gun, and you also have a gun, odds are somebody's gonna get shot.

Yes, if guns are illegal for all civilians, criminals are still gonna have guns. But would you really want to shoot somebody with the intent of hurting them, even if it is in self-defense? Those are some pretty heavy words, to say that you've shot someone with the intent of hurting them. Self defense or not, you still shot someone.

Lets say we live in a world where no civilians have guns, not even criminals. Someone breaks into your house, and he (or she) has a knife. I think a metal baseball bat would be a better means of defending myself than a knife.
Knives might look more dangerous (and they might be more dangerous depending on the size), but the blunt force of a bat is more dangerous the way I see it.. A hard swing at the right location on the head could kill a person, if not make them unconscious. It's not as easy to knock someone out with a knife.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Also, all those people saying how they'd take their own guns to the cinema in case a gun attack occurs: have you even read what you're typing? Why should anyone live their lives in such fear that there's a good chance that one of the people you'll meet will be carrying a gun? I couldn't imagine having to take a gun to the freaking cinema - that's not where they belong at all

I have a baton in my room in case of emergency, and I'm very happy with that, because I know that the chances are that anyone breaking into my house will have a knife, unless they have some serious connections in the criminal world, which most burglers do not.

Not directed at me but definitely a loud gun. With a knife he can kill everybody silently and quickly.

Fair enough.

Absolutely this. Absolutely this. Shame on those who wish to preserve such horrible, outdated laws.
