I think the touch screen can be used in a meaningful way but it would require breaking with the conventions of fighting games ...

I know people will probably hate this idea, but you could do a pseudo turn-based fighting game where you were (essentially) telling your fighter what to do; essentially you control the strategy of the fight rather than the twitchy reactions of the fight. While I'm certain that it is too late to really benefit from using this IP, it would make sense to do something like this using the Real-Steel license (being that most of the robots were controlled using a controller with a touch screen in it)

Then that wouldnt be a fighting game at all, that just an RpG. If it aint broke dont fix it.

If the core gameplay mechanic is strategic fighting, and there is no roleplaying, how is it a role playing game and not a fighter?

Why is "Fighting game" synonymous with "Button masher"?

The reason that fighting games are an endangered species is because there is no creativity in them anymore. Executing the same tired formula time and time again with slightly different characters and moderately more moronic storylines is slowly killing the genre.

In other words, fighting games are broken and someone needs to fix them ...

I'm not saying my strategy is what the genre needs but there certainly needs to be some thought into where the genre should go. Super Smash Bros. is about the only series that has seen increasing sales over recent times, and a large portion of the reason is it is the only series that tries to be accessable and doesn't take itself too seriously.

How is it a fighter, its sounds like you want them to make a RPG without a story, level up system, exploration, etc. Essentially it sounds like FF with just battles, that sounds terrible and very little would buy that.

Fighting games are not an endangdred species, where have you been? just this year alone we got new Soul Calibur, SFxT, Persona fighting game, another BlazBlue, Tekken Tag 2 just came out, DOA in two weeks, there have been more fighters relesed this gen than the last one. If anything they are more popular than they were for a long time.  Just because you're not good at them doesnt mean they are broken, you just need to learn how to actually play.

Ill give you Smash Bros, is more accesible, but some people do take fighters more seriously, and thats why the genre is the way it is, let Smash fill that void for people who cant be bothered to remember button combinations. Hell that game is more button mashing than most.

Look at the sales of the games ... They have released more games in fewer series to lower sales while producing these games at a higher development cost

Edit: On the game idea, you're adding your own thoughts to make it sound like a RPG without thinking about what I'm actually saying. There would be a certain element that might be vaguely similar to an RPG system (most similar to MMORPG mechanics) but it would mostly about the strategy of using your skills.

too much for a game i essentially bought twice already, plus the AE DLC, hell thats how much i paid for SSF4 when it was first released. One guy tells me that it has lag and another doesnt...no offense i kinda dont believe you in this regard :(  and truth be told it wouldnt matter anyway as i would play the game away from my home where i wouldnt have a realiable wifi signal anyway

what are these series that are fewer?? We've actually seen NEW series that are new to this gen (BlazBlue/Persona4Arena, Battle Fantasia, SkullGirls) and if the dev cost is so high why keep making fighters, fighting games arent that expensive to make in the first place.

Your idea is to have a fighting game where you SELECT attacks instead of actually doing them, what does that sound like?
