In a bizarre turn of fortunes, a UK judge has ordered Apple to run 'advertisements' declaring that Samsung did not copy the design of iPad.
The ruling comes after Apple failed to convince Birss that Samsung had ripped off iPad for the design of its own tablet line.
The ads, which a draft copy of the order dictates will appear in Financial Times, the Daily Mail, Guardian Mobile magazine, and T3, must specifically reference the court case, and clear up any 'impression' that Samsung has copied Apple's designs.
Samsung's lawyer Kathryn Pickard argues that the legal bombardment from Apple has "caused real commercial harm." Ironically, Birss said in his ruling that Samsung's tablets were unlikely to be confused for iPads because they're "not as cool."
In a statement following the ruling, Samsung said, "Should Apple continue to make excessive legal claims based on such generic designs, innovation in the industry could be harmed and consumer choice unduly limited."
Seems like the sort of thing you would normally see on April Fools Day.
