In the end, I just posted the songs I liked (regardless of whether they're remixes or they "do not take talent" to create)... which is how one subjectively chooses which soundtrack one likes the most.

OT: Gotta give a shout out to the Okami soundtrack as well. it's a pretty amazing soundtrack to be honest.

If I had three wishes I would eliminate remixes before world hunger.

I don't understand how you can listen to and appreciate both songs as different songs. It's like listening to the same one twice. They are made because they are fun for the musician to create, as in, "lol what would this song sound like if it was jazz?".

Around the Network

Command & conquer Red Alert. That sound track was pretty cool.

Metroid Prime for soundtrack.

Eternal Darkness gets a nod for atmosphere as well.

Haha, I totally get where you're coming from, but I don't mind remixes. As long as they're made with the same heart and soul as the original, the the composer/artist is respectful to the original composition, I can dig it.

It's funny you made the jazz comment, because I really loved the Throwback Galaxy remix for that reason. Those added trumpets are awesome.

Shenmue:

"Shenhua"

My favourites are Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy XII

I am judging a soundtrack as if you buy it on its own CD and listen to it, which needs strong themes.

Er, isn't a good part of Metroid Prime's soundtrack either ambient or remixes of (or at least based on) tracks from previous Metroid games? The prologue theme, Magmoor Caverns and Vs. Meta Ridley are obviously remixes, and I'm pretty sure that so are the title theme, the initial Tallon Overworld theme and Vs. Parasite Queen. Some also say that the Impact Crater is a remix of Tourian from the original Metroid, though I personally can't see the resemblance. (Probably because the Impact Crater theme is just... well, noise, as far as I'm concerned)

Not saying that Metroid Prime doesn't have some very strong original pieces of its own.

OT:

Three games instantly come to mind.

ActRaiser:

Filmore
Sacrifices
Bloodpool/Casandora

Chrono Trigger:

Corridors of Time
Tyranno Lair
Yearnings of the Wind

Mega Man X:

Central Highway
Fortress Tower
Palace Grounds

Can't really decide which I like the most. Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is much more extensive and diverse than the other two, but it also has more forgettable pieces.

Yes. I don't listen to anything that is a remix or ambient. Tallon Overworld is not a remix afaik but I would quit listening if presented proof that it was. For me, a good sountrack would have maybe 5 songs on it, I don't retain the rest. For Prime I have Tallon Overworld, Phendrana Drifts, the Credits theme. That's it.
