Forums - Nintendo - The Nintendo 3DS will not be able to push out more million sellers than the DS

It's just not selling as much hardware because the 3DS isn't as revolutionary as the DS was.
But, I don't care as long as I get Paper Mario and Smash Bros.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I'm surprised those Resident Evil sales are so low. I'm not sure why, I just always had the idea that it was a really big deal and one of the core 3DS games, so everyone would have bought it. Hm.

I wonder which of those other games will make it to 1 mill. Kid Icarus will. Pilotwings perhaps, although it's lost a lot of momentum. Star Fox looks unlikely, but idk if they holidays will be kind to it!

While I'm not so sure the 3DS will only be lucky to reach 50- million sellers (who's to say what'll be announced next, eh?), I do agree that it probably won't have quite as many as the DS did...

Hmm

I don't see why people cite it selling more than the original DSes first year as anything impressive, it certainly isn't.

Anyway, I think most of us here know by now that this will be the situation, but thanks for putting it in a nicely articulated thread.

Well it's time for the 3DS to build itself a legacy, like the DS has with 127 million sellers wow incredible.

well considering the DS is the second highest selling console EVER it's going to be hard to match. I think it will match game boy advance though with it's 70 million sellers. You have to realize that this 3DS will get better 3rd party support due to its graphics that are finally capable of 3d environments without looking like s***. Things like monster hunter were never possible on the ds/gba, but are now possible with the 3DS.

Eh. One must remember that the 3DS library is getting increasingly digital. The eShop is only going to get bigger.

DS between 2004 and 2006, had three christmas, 3DS have just had one, lets wait until the release of XL and this holiday season to make these statements. Besides, it's hard to follow DS footsteps, the market has changed and is harder for the handhelds and even with that, 3DS is holding his grounds..

perhaps. The hardware sells great, so software is only a matter of time.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

For now, until Vgchartz finds a way to track it, we will have to just go on Nintendo investor meetings to see how well digital games sell. The occassional big discount would help!

For now, this is the best source I have yet to find: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/02/analyst_claims_eshop_made_usd11_million_in_2011

Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any recent updates from FADE or any other supposed digital tracking agency. But for now I assume that Pushmo/Pullbox is in 250K territority, if not well beyond that by now.
