Interest piqued yet again, but I'm not interested at the moment unless it's backwards compatible. I may buy it eventually most likely in the twilight of PS3 life just as I did PS2 slim.

Now I'm sure you know that won't come in these new models. Especially if it launches at $149 and $199.

The best we can hope for is they bring back BC via firmware update.

You know that's not possible right? Firmware can't create PS2 compatability, they need the emotion chip. Only an emulator would allow it, but I don't think they are going to go that route. It does seem they are stalling on porting PS2 games over so they must be planning something. How much does the emotion chip cost now? Maybe they figured out an effective way to include it. Imagine the sales if it is backwards compatible. Removing it during the redesign was probably out of neccessity, with this one it might be on the table.

sales wont change if its b/c or not.. the general public really dont care lol its only forum complainers

If you jailbrake a non-bc PS3, you can make it play PS2 games. So it can be done through the firmware. They just don't want to.

First I've ever heard of that. Are you sure that's not through using an emulator?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

My comment is what it is. I'd buy a slimmer PS3 "now" if it's backwards compatible; if it isn't, I'll probably get it later. I only cared about backwards compatible is so I can get rid of my slim PS2. I neither cared about any consoles' sales nor does my comment show any grudge. Don't get my words twisted.

I wouldn't feel too bad about wanting B/C.  Many do, including me.  It just makes things more convenient.  I was hoping that the PS4 would be B/C with all 3, but it seems it won't be with the PS3.  So, I'm hoping it is at least with the PS1 (a definite) and the PS2 (not so sure), as I don't want 3 PS systems taking up space in my entertainment stand.  I think some just criticize because they assume that's the main thing we're worried about and won't buy the product just because it doesn't have that feature.

So how big is that emulation list? And if that's true shouldn't the current PS3 models be allowed the codes to allow for this limited emulation?

Maybe it was. I just saw it only works on the 160gb phat and 40gb PS3s, and not the slim. I still think it should be doable through firmware as the PS2 games bought off the PS Store clearly run on an emulator.

its kind of temping. I could trade in my phat b/c ps3 for this since its already pushing like 5 years.

You might be better off getting the "old" Slim.
