Forums - Gaming - PSP has no good games...what?

I've read on numerous boards all over with posters stating that the PSP doesn't have enough good games and once they get a reasonable number of decent games they would maybe consider buying one.

Well, what are they talking about?  What constitutes a reasonable number?

Well, I've listed a small selection of games for each gaming type, just to prove that the PSP does in fact have a "reasonable" number of good games.

FPS/TS: Syphon Filter, SOCOM 1 & 2, MGS Portable Ops

Action Adventure: GTA LCS, GTA VCS, Me & My Katamari, Pursuit Force

Racing: Ridge Racer 1 & 2, Wipeout, Burnout Legends & Dominator, NFS's, OutRun 2006

Sports: PES, FIFA, Virtua Tennis, THUG, WWE Smackdown, SSX

Platformer: Daxter, Megaman, Tokobot, LocoRoco

Fighting: Tekken, Powerstone, SF Alpha

Puzzle: Lumines 1 & 2, Mercury, Exit

Strategy & Role Playing: Pirates, Field Commander, X-Men Legends 2, MGA 1 & 2, Kingdom of Paradise.

The games above generally received very good marks i.e. 80%+ at least and IMHO are indicative of a cross section of games for the PSP.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Portable gamers have very different tastes as compared to (home) console gamers ... The PSP has a lot of PS2 ports and games which would apeal to (home) console gamers but very few games which really apeal to the typical portable gamers.

Yep, that is the most normal reason. Not that many folks want to buy same game for Psp if they already have it for Ps1/ps2.

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

yo forgot Killzone liberation, damn good game.

Besides what punisher and happysquirrel have mentioned there is another point. I could make you a similar list for the gc but people claimed that there were not enough games around anyway. Such statements in a rather late point of the console war are often not just caused by facts but by the image a console gained in its first years. So I predict people will always claim that the psp has not enough games, no matter what happens.

btw, after taking a second look at your list I think that a gc list would like far better. But this just makes my statement even more valid.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

Just compare a 6 year console, vs a 2 year console. Try agian at bashing the PSP and think this time.

The GameCube had about 5-10 tops good games 2 years in. And over the next 4 years they just tricked in, 1-3 a year.

Your logic, The PSP has MUCH better games than the Wii!

As Ive said before, the problem with the PSP is this:

Its ultimately just a "portable" console (unlike the DS) - but one that is weaker than the PS2. Most of those games are ports - and I'll rather play them on my TV thank you.

The PSP games that *have* sold well - are the ones that are NOT ports. If they would have been done for the PS2 instead, they would have sold better. And several of them  (i.e. GTA games) come to the PS2 anyway.

...

(DS games are more unique, and include games that are not possible on a console - mainly thanks to the touch screen).

This list is a large part of the reason that the PSP has been a success.  More original games such as Nintendogs (if you call that a game), New Super Mario Bros., and Brain Age would have propelled it a lot more I guess.  I think Brain Age is coming to the Wii anyway, so maybe then that game won't sell on the DS, but it doesn't matter now.

Most of the above games were developed just for the PSP, even if they are the same series that are on other consoles.  You could say New Super Mario Bros. was a port too but obviously it's not because it contains new elements.  So I think calling all the games ports is a little premature, but I guess that drought early on with games did lead to this reputation.

The Wii doesn't really have any games either but because of the controller it doesn't get that reputation.  Go figure.

The PSP has lots of good games. To say otherwise is silly. That said. I don't want one, and I'm so pumped for my DS! YEAH BOYZZZZ!
