Forums - Gaming - Game Trailers admit they don't turn on full RGB for PS3 comparisons

From the article:

We don't create these videos for the fanboys. That's not the point. We create them so that people who own both systems can be a little more informed on which version to buy. It's the fanboys that turn the comments section for these videos into a debacle.

As for using RGB or adjusting the white levels on the PS3, that completely defeats the point of these videos. We play both systems on default settings with the same cabling. If we were to adjust the settings on the PS3 to make it look better then we'd be sacrificing the integrity of the video. It's not the other way around.

I think that's bullshit.

For a correct graphical comparison you would adjust the console-settings to look as best as possible.
It's stupid not to use the optimizing feautures of one console just because the other console does not has those features.

That would depend on if their video capture device accepts 0-255 in the RGB range or not. If yes, they should have RGB full on. If not, no. I guess "we play them on default settings" sounds kind of like a cop out though. Configure your settings correctly for whatever device is accepting the video, geniuses.

how about they 2 comparisons, one with the PS3/360 straight out of the box and the other with console features such as full RGB turned on.

^troll--agreed you should do the default settings and then try to make them look the best you can--other wise its a moot point--

Hey lets close one eye on the ps3 version of the game and squint with the other....awww man look how crappy the game seems--okay now lets try the 360 with both eyes open...yep clearly this is the better looking game

morel like building a new PC and leaving the resolution at 640x480, installing crysis with stock settings, and then complaining that the game looks jaggie and over all their isn't much detail.

its incredible how a little tweak here and their can make a world of difference, perhaps these guys at game trailers should give the tweaking thing ago, after all that 's why the settings/options are there for.

Yea, it's a lame excuse.

The 360 cable comes with the switch set to SDTV. If they switch it to HDTV, they have compromised there integrity, as it's no longer default settings.

Oh , so if a PC game doesnt recognises your video card properly , and it selects you low setting , than you will remain at that ? This is a lame excuse . This really prooves that many comparison videos are poorly done ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Full RGB needs HDMI cables to be used. GT cannot record off of HDMI cables due to Sony created protections (unless they want to shell out $12,000+ on a dev kit). GT then used the same set up on both systems.

Really, all of this has been laid out in full in another thread, it's not rocket surgery (if I may borrow the phrase from whomever came up with it on this site a few days back). GT's not being biased, they are trying to be as fair as they can be given the situation.

In all fairness, the limitations of HDMI recording are not Sony created protections, they're a limitation of HDMI itself (which Sony undoubtedly had a hand in, as did every other major content creator).

Anyway, this thread is getting locked. If you wish to continue talking about this, there is already a three page long thread here:
