I'm not really worried since it's Naughty Dog. Though I am hoping for a new type of multiplayer experience, not just a typical tdm mode. Mabey somehow involving the survival aspect into it.

Given Naughty Dog's pedigree with Uncharted 2's single player & multiplayer, I am not worried for a second about this.

I hope it's not competitive multiplayer though. I love it most of the time - don't get me wrong, but I honestly prefer co-op modes in the vein of Left 4 Dead, Resistance 2 etc. Dedicated stories that follow the same basic structure but differ on repeat playthroughs. I think they work really, really well and I think they'd be perfect for TLOU.

With God of War jumping on the competitive multiplayer bandwagon, though, I guess it's probably likely to be forced on this as well.

I hoped that TLoU would be single player only but alas, it seems the game will be jumping on the MP bandwagon.

Creative Director Neil Druckmann
“We are supporting multiplayer with The Last of Us. We’re not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented, however we can say that it is not co-op within the main campaign."

On the plus side, it seems the single player will remain single player. Which is a saving grace I guess.

I am disappoint. Why not have a co-op option for the main campaign? It is ideally suited for campaign co-op given there are 2 protagonists in the game who seem to be pretty much on screen together through the entire game. Though maybe one of them dies before the end (I'm guessing the dude dies) which would make co-op possible only up to the point of that character's death. Being able to play through the main story with someone is great!!! the best sort of multiplyer there is IMO, and sadly underutilised. It was one really great thing about RFoM, split screen co-op for main campaign. Co-op campaign in R2 is pretty good too, but it's not quite the same as playing the main story in Co-op.

Enslaved should have had campaign Co-op too.

ND would have been criticised for not having MP in TLoU. It's virtually expected that there be MP in almost every game, even GoW Ascension is gonna have MP, and that's a quintessential SP game. MP gives a game the perception of longevity so it's an important tool in the ongoing war the industry is waging on used games / sharing games.

What's wrong with MP? I don't play MP and it doesn't bother me when a game has it in addition to SP.

as long as it won't affect singleplayer, why not...

What game got affected by adding MP?

Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 3

Battlefield 3

All have forgettable campaigns. BF3 is the worst offender. I've played through MW2 campaign probably 4 times looking for Intel for the trophies, and the MW3 campaign 3 times so far, and at least they are enjoyable, just short. BF3 is very forgettable though, the only mission I actually wanna play again is the dogfight, and I'm not a huge fan of the whole scripted mission either. At least when in combate you can choose who to shoot. Dogfight is completely linear.

I thought they initially said it wouldn't? caved in.

They said it would, from the start

This.    They only denied from the start the  "story co-op mode".

I dont give a damn about MP as long as the single player continues to be as awesome as it looks right now. If they are aiming to add more value to the "story" mode, hopefully MP wont be competitive.

I think competitive multiplayer would not fit in the game, because the game is based on survival basically, unless you are a bunch of people fighting for food (capture the food instead of capture the flag lol). Most probably they will add a second campaign in which we can play in co-op.

I cant think about what it will be, but most probably it will be something that will make sense with the game themes.

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, you are 100% wrong about Battlefield 3. You may be right about the single player portion of the game being forgettable. But you are wrong about the MP ruining the SP.

And here's why:

The Battlefield games never had real single player story modes before BF3. They tacked it on as a way to compete with COD. The battlefield series was always about big multiplayer matches and untill BF3 the seriese only had bots as an option for offline play.

As for Modern Warfare 2 and 3. I thought the SP in both was fun like a big action movie blockbuster. No more forgetable than a flick like ID4.

Uncharted made the transition into MP really really (really) well. I'm not to worried about TLoU having it too.

I was complaining mostly about the length of MW campaigns. They are fun, just short and that takes away from the whole thing. Not having an in-depth story makes it more forgettable.

Why include the single player in BF3 then? If you aren't gonna make it good, then don't include it. And you are wrong, Bad Company games had campaigns, and Bad Company 2 was quite fun.
