Forums - Nintendo - Why do people hate on Mario?

Because he's the leader of the reigning Console Champion, people always hate on the best, plus he's been a major player in the video game market for over 20 years now. People like to think they're 'hardcore' gamers and probably have never even knocked out Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. That was very challenging, playing COD is easy.  And his games have outsold any other franchise in existence, so Mario is also the all-time software sales Champion.

they are generic because are based on cliches, can be replaced easily and have little to no appeal to the people that are not biased,
talking about sales and MArio?

"based on cliches" WAT How many good tough guys have you seen before in Sony/M$ games? Many, that's really all of what their MC's are, good tough guys. (And Nintendo can fall under this category for some of it's 3rd/2nd party games, too.)

"can be replaced easily" WAT That one is pretty obvious.

"little to no appeal to the people that are not biased" WAAAAAAT. xD What does that even mean? What I think He means is that people who don't really like FPS/TPS Genre/Sony can see that it is basically what I wrote in my first sentences.

And yes, sales and Mario? I said that Mario sells really well, or at least implied it, and that's why Ninty slaps his name on so many games. What's your point? Nintendo "Slaps" his name on games because that is one of their largest "Worlds". They have "Mario" Kart because they can incorporate several Mario-Series Characters into one game. It would be stupid to have a Pokemon Kart because is 1.) pokemon's not versatile enough and 2.) it would just look stupid. (That's an expample, btw.)

People dont hate Mario, Sony and Msoft fanboys hate Mario because it gets amazing ratings and lots of sales...more than they beloved "mature" franchises...its called envy

this is a stupid answer and a way to think about it, people could call me a sony fanboy but honestly i just really love sony games and playstation consoles. but i dont hate mario, i actually love him! (Good for you! We need more Sony fans like you.) but what people hate is not the franshise its the way nintendo treats the franshise, everything they make is either mario or zelda (Let me stop you right there. Zelda is not made that much. I think it is on a yearly level, correct? That's one Zelda game a year, you are acting like they make at least 2 Zelda games in a year. Which would be dumb.) (for consoles) and mario is just freaking everywhere! It's their mascott, of course he is! they been milking the franshise for about 30 years now, its just way to much! the N64 is my second favorite console and i probably finished super mario 64 a million times, but after that nintendo did nothing new with the franshise, well nothing major. mario 64 was a jump from the 2D world to the 3D, but after that what happened? (Is there really that much to do to it? If you change it too much it wouldn't even be a Mario game.) yes new gameplay but what about the story? "bowser kindnapped the prinsess go save him mario!" thats literally the hole story......

i dont know every how much they release a zelda game as i am not a fan of the series, but they have been making zelda games for over 25 years, thats a lot, plus dont they all have like the same story? (im not sure i dont play zelda games as i said) but they do have the same charecters. zelda, link and ganon. i really dont like milking franshises, and you cant deny nintendo milk theirs to death. both sony and microsoft milk theirs as well, but you cant compare sony putting out god of war asecnsion(even though its my favorite franshise i still think its milking the game) to nintedno making sports game with the main charecter who is a fat plumer...

as for what you can change to mario, well at first thought not really you can say what they do is enough, but at second thought there is, there is so much. i wrote an earlier post about it here ill copy past it

"nintendo keeps bragging about "the experiance" of the game, but they completely ditched there fans, as their fans grew up and matured more mario didnt, the franshise stayed the same. nintendo did nothing to make the franshise mature with its original fans. and if you think by making the game mature with the audince mean add gore and curse words to it then you understand nothing about games. what i mean is make a story, a real one! make us feel mario is a human, bowser is evil. not just tell us it MAKE US FEEL IT, but they didnt. its still the same old stuff"

What? No, I didn't understand dude, that's it. I'm not trying to say you aren't making sense or anything, I literally didn't understand. Can you explain? Sorry

I will tell you why.  Because there are a lot of people out there who played Mario games as a kid who are still avid video gamers now.  And these people feel as though Nintendo has either forgotten or abandoned them by continuing to release Mario games almost 30 years later.  They feel that anything that doesn't feature heads and limbs being blown off, the ability to have sex with a prostitute, shoot a cop in the face at point-blank range, or run-over dozens of pedestrians at a time is kiddie-crap that doesn't cater to the "hardcore" crowd.  The reality of the matter, is that Nintendo hasn't forgotten anybody.  Nintendo is still providing the entertainment that they provided to the 80's generation, now to the 2000's generation.  Today's "hardcore" gamers for some unknown reason don't believe that kids today should have an option to play and enjoy the video games that the 80's generation of kids grew up playing.  I don't have kids at the moment, but if I did, I would much prefer to see them play Mario Galaxy or New Super Mario Bros then Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, Fallout, etc.  Honestly, I love playing the "hardcore" games I just mentioned.  But, that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be Zelda or Mario games out on the market.  I'm glad that Nintendo has provided a consistent outlet of games for people of ALL ages.  That's my take on it anyway.

You clearly haven't played an Uncharted game. How is Drake a tough guy? And in UC3 he's hinted at being the "bad guy" quite a bit. He isn't a predictable character, his darker story is explored a little in UC3.

"can be replaced easily" WAT That one is pretty obvious. It's obvious what he meant sure, it's just not correct. How can Uncharted or GOW be replaced easily? Explain that point if you're gonna make it.

"little to no appeal to the people that are not biased" WAAAAAAT. xD What does that even mean? What I think He means is that people who don't really like FPS/TPS Genre/Sony can see that it is basically what I wrote in my first sentences.

1st of all, it's not what you wrote in the first sentences, 2nd of all, you haven't even played the games yet make judgements as if you have. E.g. you don't get the general overview of Drakes character from a trailer or 2. Or if you have played them, please tell me how Nate Drake fits the "tough guy" character. "people who don't really like FPS/TPS Genre/Sony can see that it is basically what I wrote in my first sentences." can you back that up? I know at least 3 Ninty fans that bought a PS3 for Uncharted, and have loved it, including one guy from here (HappyD).

Karting games are an exception, that's why I've never mentioned them.

people tend to hate that which makes lots of moneh... unless it's moneh for them of curse

i mentioned zelda because i mentioed zelda and mario are all what nintendo makes, thats all i didnt mention anything about the game itself, i just said they make a lot of zelda games. well i did play OoT on my friends n64 (didnt finish it) even though the game is a quality game no doubt, it wasnt just for me at the time (maybe i would love it know who knows?) as for the new fans what about them? the way a mentioned mario games should mature doest push away new fans, on the contrary it pulls them in even more, honestly if they make mario feel like a charecter, a human, and a hero not just tell us that he is, wouldnt that be awesome? and wouldnt it make new comers to the game love it more?
