Forums - Gaming - Wada: No Final Fantasy VII Remake Until Original Has Been Topped

Well at least the are keeping the bar low. Imagine if they tried to topple their SNES games.

Square Enix's problem is they have become mainstream, and westernized. I no longer have faith in their ability to produce quality of games produced during the Squaresoft or Enix era. On that note, his response felt he was obliged to make a ridiculous response on the subject of not just FF7 remake but the quality of the Final Fantasy altogether.

Unless they get rid of the ultra feminine style they have no chance. The least feminine versions were 7, 8, and 12 and coincidentally my favorites. The last two 13 and 13-2 were pure estrogen and pretty boring. 13 bad world, boring combat. 13-2 bad characters and simple story through most. I do not expect much.

I would say FF8 had a femine style and in years to come i will compare that Squall/Rinoa stuff to that Twlight 'stuff'. FF8 had semi-awful characters, simply, predictably droll story. not a scratch on FF9 or FF12. other than that i agree.

FF15 is rumoured to be in development, so i'm more looking foward to that. its best to leave the masterpeices in the past imo. and focus on new things.

I wouldn't agree that the love story of FF VIII makes it feminine, mostly because the males are actually tough like real soldiers would be. The weak ff males act like emotional teenagers who you could never see fighting and winning battles like 9, 10 with Tidus and the surfer dude. Thirteen and it's sequel felt like it morphed male characters with fasion show designers and models or with emo boys wearing colorful clothing instead of  black. It was horrorendously unappealing to many. I could probably post countless youtube videos to make my point, but I will spare all.

I do agree though that 7 is by far the apex and that they shouldn't redo it because it's world and story is to vast to do at a high graphical level they go for. They said this themselves. I will give 15 a chance maybe, but 13-2 was an easy button masher. You basically grinded through the whole game. So even though it improved much over 13 it still failed in more areas. I am not hyped for 15 and I bought my PS3 thinking ff 13 would be an exclusive.

I think they've topped 7 with every main FF released since.

But the popularity of 7 is too much. It's all because of that tech demo, really.

Maybe he is speaking about sales.

Then it's never going to happen.

X and 9 are probably better games tbh. But 7 is a classic.

That is the case. But due to the vague terms, I can easily phrase it to mean quality.

I don't think something will pass 7 though. Especially if you consider to additional million or so it's sold on PSN.

If Square manages to top Chrono Trigger (I personally enjoyed Chrono Cross more) then I will surely get back into their games again. To me FF7 was good, I just like FF9 a lot more and it still stands as my favorite Playstation game (Chrono Cross is a close second!) That being said, they really do need to top their great games of the past. I miss those halycon days.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

Even though it isn't a final fantasy game, Square Enix is working on an RPG game called Bravely Default.

I just hope they don't fuck up FFXV. Meaning messing the basics again... or releasing a game where the protagonist is a dude with short hair, massive muscles and an assault rifle on his hand and says moronic stuff with a lot of "fuck" and similar low IQ speech everything from Call of Duty to Killzone and Gears is filled with.

Come on, you know if they make something like a search for "what the market wants" that's what they'll come up with.

Time for a "death magnetic" Final Fantasy: get your basic, most lauded elements together and release a safe title to please everyone before trying to experiment again.
